When we talk about curing 'Autism' are we talking specifically about low functioning autism or about all spectrum conditions including Aspergers?

When pro cure groups talk about curing autism they seem to be talking about all areas of autism, when we at AFF talk about not curing autism, we are talking about not curing all autistics.
Autism is different from mental retardation, which can come as comorbid with autism for some with LFA. If their autism could be cured, they would still be left with mental retardation anyway, why dont those keen on a cure work on a way to help people with mental retardation, and start respecting autism as a neurological difference.
