In addition to Disasters, Photography is my other main special interest. Would be happy to chat with anyone who might have the same interest

How much do you want to spend?
I'm using a couple of Minolta Dimage Z6s. They're reasonably good cameras, but the experience has led me to the conclusion that the next one's going to be a Nikon SLR and damn the expense (I'm just tired of consumer-grade rubbish).
In fact, with Minolta out of the game now, I can't really recommend any digital cameras that aren't Nikon SLRs. Sony might have some okay products, but I refuse to do business with Sony for a wide variety of reasons.
Now, if you want a film camera, that's another story...

I have almost no limit. But I can't do credit (I have a wired belief that if I do not have the money then do not get it until you do. I do not like owing anyone anything)
I hear Nikon SLRs are really nice. I will be looking into it for about another month I should have a few 1,000 by then.
thanks

That'll do it. It's pretty easy to find a D80 package for well under a grand and a D200 for around a thousand or a bit over (body, couple of lenses, etc.).
Now, what I really want is a Hasselblad with a digital back, but the thought of a camera that costs more than my car is a bit daunting.
Hello!
I only have Cannons, two SLRs (one film and one digital) and one Point and Shoot. I have found that surprisingly, the Point and Shoot is more flexible and creates much better abstract pictures, if you really know how to use it.
So, I think if you are interested in creating bizarre yet interesting pictures as I am, without digitally manipulating the photos, I would recommend buying a Point and Shoot, controlling it fully manually and then playing with the camera to find 'tricks' (moving the camera while taking the exposure, severely overexposing or underexposing, etc.) for about six months to a year.
If you want to take realistic pictures, or pictures you want to digitally manipulate considerably, I would recommend getting an SLR.
That's just my two cents
