I started to write poetry/prose when I was 17. Basically because I made friends with people that was into writing. The oldest text I have is from april 1983, but it wasn't until two to three years later that I began to feel satisfied with what I was producing. Among my first "idols" was Mayakovsky; the Russian futurist, and the other artists and writers of that movement.
Note: There was also a futurist movement in Italy but they veered towards fascism as that movement also started around that time (around WW1). But there wasn't many writers among the Italians so that was probably why I didn't find them interesting.
Hello Ichtms,
To be honest, school is what got me started writing. I was fortunate enough to go to a small alternative school from 1st-5th grade, and there was a lot of freedom there. Always having been verbally-linguistically talented, I was able to develop an interest in writing there.
Then I found Fantasy novels, starting I think with Tamora Pierce, and I found Emily Dickinson's poems, and that really launched my writing in a real direction.
I learnt the alphabet and from then on it was impossible to stop. Not that I would EVER want to stop writing. Not even in my dreams. That would be like stopping life!
You are probably what Colin referred to as "the invisible letter"; a person that is a Natural Born Writer.
I dont write poems but I've written a few fictional stories. Though I will admit Ive never finished any of them but I always get a good 10-15 pages out of them. I originally started writing to show my NT friend how it should be done lol. She was writing a fanfic about DragonBall Z & OMG it was the worst thing I've ever read so then I spent about 5 hours fixing up all her bad grammer & rearanging the words & just generally making it make sense. So then I decided to show her how it was done by doing my own fanfic. I did a cross between DragonBall Z & Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z But it got slightly violent around the time I stopped writing. Then quite a few months later 1 of my autistic friends on the net was writing a story & wanted me to write 1 as well because she had read my 1st fanfic & loved it but wanted me to write about something besides anime so I did. That story was about 10 pages long if I mem right.... wow sry that was so long
I started writing fictional stories because I simply COULDN'T get ideas for a fictional story out of my head. I have a total of three unfinished stories at the moment. This is because I cant think of anything to continue them at the moment.

I liked to day dream as a child. My stories back then, however, wouldn't have been suitable for another's reading because they were strange and just tossed together. (as kids tend to do). I recently wanted to write more, and have come to enjoy writing through roleplaying without dice.
I got more into chat room roleplaying after learning a few things. For starters, playing someone with averege to weak skills is actualy the best to start with, I think, because I realised how characters so nicely grow on a player. Some of the ones that lasted longer I learned what their skills, behavior, fears, strangths and everything were after playing as them.
I seriously felt a little of one of my characters' phobias recently, so I had to stop for my own mood sake.

I'm taking some of my characters, and a little bit of my land scapes that I seemed to have developed over six years. Roleplaying really actualy improoved my writeing skills somewhat (thought I'm still not perfect), and I enjoy writeing fictional stuff.
-.- Sometimes having no edit option bites.. I want to add that roleplaying in the past has left me with some good memories of some very fun past adventures, and great character types.
I had this obsession with daydreaming and I daydreamt up so many exciting fantasy stories of unheard of adventure so I decided to make a story out of it every now and again.

Do you have an ideas sketchbook?
What made me begin to write? I read so much as a kid, I felt that I needed to try and put something back in. That, and my maths is fucking terrible!
With me it was the fact that I read a lot, and I always got positive comments by my teachers on my essays. Sadly I'm rather prone to writer's block with fiction. ah well, cant have everything.
Same here. I felt I needed to put something back, so now I write.
I started making up stories in my head when I was about five and then I used to tell mum but she was too busy to listen to many of them. Once I could write well enough to put them in my composition book, there was no stopping me.
When I was little, like 6-years-old little, I would pace back and forth as I would tell a random story I made up to myself. This used to be okay when I was little, but as I grew older, I suddenly had to stop "talking" to myself. I now needed a more silent input for my (half-baked) ideas. Thus to.... THE COMPUTER!!!!
Now, I'm currently still writing stories, but I want to make them into comics. Comics with well-developed, character-driven stories. Local Reality has been going through heavy development and revision for over a year, and now I think it's a fully grown, fat story now. I'm starting to write the script.
I wanted to explore sides characters in fiction that I liked that I didn't think the writers of those tv shows/movies were touching on enough. So I would put them in situations in fan fictions.
Then I decided I wanted to say something new and possibly get published, so I created my own universe to write in.
