• finds social situations confusing--a little, feel awkward
• finds it hard to make small talk--Yes, I never know what to say.
• good at picking up details and facts--Just some topics.
• finds it hard to work out what other people are feeling--not really
• can focus on certain things for long periods--If it is interesting, or course
• can appear rude--Very rare, but I do have unwillingly looked rude.
• has unusually strong narrow interests--don't know
• does things in inflexible repetitive way--I like routine, but I woudn't say inflexible
• has difficulty making friends--- BIG YES
• tends to turn conversations back on themselves or to own topic of interest--It is not something I do on purpose. But when I talk to coworkers the chat frequently drifts toward "what have I done" etc. Also, I think that is natural to talk about our topics of interest... Why would I talk about something that is not interesting for me?

Some time ago I began to doubt I was aspie, I have a official diagnosis but I've haven't managed to have a big obsession, even tough I wanted one.
But then!... I looked at some pics mom had taken of me on vacations and thought I deffinitly looked aspie. No doubt anymore.
The chick in this first picture is quite attractive.
Who might that be?
And, where are you from?
I don't think you need to have all ten, just match a lot of them.
Meiloyn,
I have all ten, except I don't often appear as rude. That's just occasionally.
All the rest I match with about 80% intensity.
I've got AS, and I've got it bad.
• finds social situations confusing
Absolutely, but since I'm 25 a bit less so. Time is key, since Aspergians learn slowly.
• finds it hard to make small talk
Absolutely. I don't like talking to certain people, to begin with. I don't even make an effort to talk to these people unless they talk to me, and even then I keep quiet, just say a lot of "Yeah."
• good at picking up details and facts
Usually.
• finds it hard to work out what other people are feeling
Absolutely. I only care about what I'm feeling, mostly. And I don't often feel that great.
• can focus on certain things for long periods
Of course. I can work on a drawing for 4 hours straight and not be aware that any time has passed.
• can appear rude
Only if I miss social cues.
• has unusually strong narrow interests
Absolutely. Right now I mostly only care about art and Asperger's Syndrome.
• does things in inflexible repetitive way
100%, absolutely, hands down, no doubt about it. I do the same things at the same time every day, often in the same order! And I get pissed off if there's a change... some changes to routine are definitely good, and I don't mind them.. but others really aggravate me. For example, any social gathering, really.
• has difficulty making friends
Absolutely... 100%. I can't let people in. Why? Cuz people suck.
• tends to turn conversations back on themselves or to own topic of interest
Yep. I have to find something interesting in a conversation or I tend not to participate in it. For example if people are talking about cars (I know almost nothing about them, and don't care to), I just keep saying "Yeah" to whatever they say, and it's awkward.

Meiloyn,
What do you think?
How Aspergian am I?
Has anybody found a book that explains how to do the infamous "small talk"?
I have a book about body language and I must say that it has been very useful. If I could study the small talk I think that things would get far more easy for me.
• tends to turn conversations back on themselves or to own topic of interest
Guilty! Hahaha... oh dear, and there was me thinking I was just being a tad self-obsessed.
• does things in inflexible repetitive way yes, I do have OCD traits, they creep up on me and catch me unawares, although when I realise what I've been doing, I can stop myself.
Key: Yes/No

Wouldn't this be about the same thing as our "preference for routine", or would that fall under one of the other traits in the list?
I wasn't aware that preference for routine is highly associated with OCD--I thought the Aspie love for routine was more about the autistic-tendency to do things in ways we think are "just right," and to stay within a system we're familiar with, while blocking out unwanted external factors.
At least, that's how I see it. Am I wrong?
Any help here?
Well, there's a difference between a tendency and a compulsion.
From experience and having read the discussion as it relates to 'repetition', I would like to add the following examples, just for thought.
- Tending to stick with the same stores, venues, etc. when you go out, even if it poses an inconvenience.
- Having been told as a child or even as an adult that you're 'too honest'.
The first example is definately related to repetition but may not be something people would instantly recognize as such.
The second is pretty obvious. lol
