The other day I was told I have long hair, it went something like this

"I just noticed you have long hair are you a girl then"

I have below shoulder length hair and have done for the past two years and I am also 6 ft 4 with five o clock shadow and other than the hair, there is not much resemblance to anything girl like.

I thought it was one of the stupidest things anyone has ever said to me, and I replied by questioning his knowledge of anatomy and what defines a gender, then I threw in a snide comment on how he would never be using said gender defining parts.
What's said is that I'm 18 and I still get them. Nobosy in my school knows what the hell AS is and I don't care to explain it to them so it dosen't bother me that much.

I have limited facial expression (I usually look sad), and where I live the usual comment people make when someone looks a bit sad is:

'Cheer up, it might never happen'
(no, I don't know why they say it)

For years I answered with 'What will never happen?'.
I don't know who was more confused by the exchange, them or me.

The other comment that annoys me is:

'Will you sit still and stop twitching'

My reply - 'NO'

Ah, same here.
Once in middle school a teacher asked me why i looked so sad.

Me: *sitting in a chair, just thinking about whatever*
Teach: *with a concerned look* What's wrong?! You look like you've lost a best friend or something.
Me: *confused look* huh...?
Teach: Smile!! You're makin me sad!
Me: ??? *not seeing what her issue is*

In sixth grade someone got mad about me tapping my foot.
Me:*tapping*
Kid: stop that! It's annoying.
Me: sorry...>.>*keep tapping but trying to be quiet*
kid: *now forcefully trying (with her foot) to stop my tapping*
Me: *respond by kicking their shin*
kid: *cries to teacher* look! *explains situation*
Teacher: *angry* why did you do that!? *notices tapping* stop that.
Me: *blank stare* I can't
Teahcer: What do you mean can't?! stop or you're in time out.
Me: *now in timeout*

-_-'

Also, "why do you were all black?", "what kind of music is THAT?!", "why do you were that rainbow bracelet??", "wow, your hair is so long", "Smile sometime", and "how can you not like (insert random item here)?!"

one that's not really stupid but bugs me: "why do you have ink on your lip?!" I have two small moles that (apparantly) look like I've been chewing on pens....>.>

A grade school teacher said to me, "If the whole world were marching left, right, left, right, you would be marching right, left, right, left, and say that you are in step and the rest of the world is out of step."
So I asked her "What proof does the world have that it is marching in step?"
She replied, "Well, if that is the way you think you might as well let people run around without any clothes on just because the weather is warm!" That contributed to my growing up to become a nudist.

wowBig Grin

"You walk funny."
"You don't have aspergers." (Are you a doctor?)
"You can speak can't you?"

About 85% or more of the population just does not understand.
When I was a teenager:

Girl says to me: "You're really smart, eh?"
Inside my head I think: "I'm dumb as a horse trying to date you"
Didn't work out, she was dumb.

Girl says to me: "People insult you and you don't even know it!"
Inside my head I think: "who'd want to insult me? I'm a nice guy."
Lost your chance girl.

Later in life:

My partner says: "you're really smart, eh?"
I'd quip: "you got if right girl, astute observation!"
She is smart too! Even for an NT.

My partner says: "People insult you, and you don't know it, you're sweet!"
I'd quip: "Another, astute observation!"
She really is smart! Even for an NT
Someone asked me once when told him about my Aspergers/HFA if that meant that I could play the piano without ever having a lesson.  I can't remember the exact quote.
I think stupid commements are the norm for me. Though I get stupid questions when I'm A: Handflapping or B: Having Panic Attack

for A... it's "Dude are you having seizure?"

for B: it's "OMG? Are you ok?" my response. "I'm rocking back and forth crying and screaming...DO I LOOK OK F*CKWAD?!"

Oy.. remind to lock myself up in basement, cause it that or Home.
Dumbest ever? I'd have to say, my elementary school principal said some golden ones.

*Standing in his office after having been beaten up*
Him: You're in big trouble, mister.
Me: Why?
Him: You got in a fight with other students. That kind of behavior is unnacceptable.
Me: No, they just beat me up, and they chased me and hurt me.
Him: Well, it was your fault for running.

Or, what he said to my parents after one particularly harsh beating: "Boys will be boys."

*shivers* Glad I've been outta that school for so long, that was back in elementary school.
"All these things are bullcrap. Back then they never had any of this garbage like ocd and add. If you did that you got the belt." My 82 year old grandmother. I don't think its dumb, but I did inform her of AS and she understood it. She knew nothing about Autism except for what the media portrayed and I educated her. I've educated several people now. I should be a speaker!

To the poster above, AS is not a mental illness.

I obviously know that now. That was a long time ago.

I know, I can't even remember why I worded the post like that. I probably misinterpreted or misread the part where stated "she reacted more than I did." But in general, I meant it for the friend. I'm so confused right now. I think I completely misread that. My apologies.

That's OK. I probably shouldn't have put "illness" in there in the first place. ^_^''

Don't apologize, it was my mistake. Welcome to the boards by the way!

Thank you. Smile

What about the situation where somebody gets irritated with us for saying or doing something when we think we didn't do anything wrong and then when we say "I didn't know" they say "well, you should have known" or "everybody knows that" or "you should know without being told".

Oh my gosh, that's so annoying. One time in P.E. I had no idea where my class was, so I walked up to this teacher and asked perfectly politely where to find my teacher. It went like this:

Me: Excuse me? Do you know where Mr. Neal is?
Teacher: Where do you THINK he is?

Duh... If I knew, why would I ask? Then she said, "What are you doing all the way out here, anyway??"

Well, obviously, looking for my teacher... -_-

I got yelled at (literally) by a cop once. He was directing traffic. I was confused about what he was trying to signal for me to do.  In fact, I said that out loud to my father at the time, "I don't know what that means. Does he want me to turn here?"  So, I turn right and the cop screams at me.  I explained that I had been confused about what he wanted me to do. He shouted "THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE. I should give you a ticket for crossing a solid line!" (a painted line).  Well,  no, I wouldnt have normally done so but the rule is that you obey the cop and I tried. (sigh)

Wow, that sounds frustrating. >.<
