Sounds like a great idea. I wanna write for it.
People could use pseudonyms if they wanted, right? Some folks might not be able to use their real names because they can't be an "out" Aspie in their current circumstances....
"a giant homocidal collection of autistic works"
I just love that title!!!! (I am quickly becoming a Meylon's fan).
I will be out of this world for a couple of weeks. Need to write an important paper... See you later guys!
I will happily participate. Please include me in this project.
*waves*
Me too! I could write for it at least irregularly....
We are all sensitive people that deal with critique in various ways and manners - so we would have to ask each aspiring contributor how they view such things so as to minimize the risk of someone feeling wronged in any way. I think that the material should not be ranked in any way.
In response to erkolos last post. Let's work out an invitation to be used at other sites as well as in the "real" world as a poster/flyer to be posted at places where spectrum people congregate.
I'm a big fan of the non-hierarchical organisation. It's more work. But if I felt that, ahum, I don't really understand this work or it doesn't real touch my heart, so to speak, I'd step back and be a silent observer only, because it's so much bigger than just me.
Mark me up as a member of the editing committee. I could also contribute works of art/words but I'll let that slide for now...
When it comes to the name of this publication I'm currently working around words like "stars", "spectrum", "prism", or something in that general area. I'd rather see that we can reach an agreement through discussion rather than using a poll, since it would mean voting and that's a kind of a flawed system.
I sat tonight (CET) thinking along the lines of "the-aut-o-matic-journal". After a good night's sleep, a cigarette and new brewed coffea "aut-o-matters". I've never viewed autists as weird people but the opposite. Being different is something positive.
As an example it could be something like this; RAW VISION - International Journal of Intuitive & Visionary Art + Outsider Art + Art Brut + Self-Taught Art + Contemporary Folk Art. Btw, this is a very interesting magazine; check out their web site.
The-Multi-Sided-Aut-O-Journal... I'm brain quaking now...
I could help with the layout, I'm a desktop publisher, although if it is an online mag, I don't know much about web language.
The question as I see it boils down to that the one who gets the website going has to be willing to pay for the service. I don't know what an ad free website costs. Would it have the name of the on-line magazine or would it host the magazine and have a name of its own?
I think that often happens, Logical Paradox. When an idea isn't moving along quickly enough for people's taste or they feel they've hit a wall, they just stop.
I think we need at this point to stop, organize ourselves, and create a step-by-step procedure to follow in order to get this done.
I'm not sure what should be done first, but at some point we do need to start collecting material for the first issue, so- I propose we decide on a theme or underlying idea for the first issue and that people get started writing/drawing!
Coincidentally I was thinking along these lines to as I was writing/thinking a response to logical paradox. I then went to the link elpee presented earlier in the thread and via that I came to a place called webmonkey. And I was thinking that the idea is just taking a nap to build up energy and come back to hound us into action...
Yes, you have a good point. Better to start somewhere than not...
As far as doing this in e-zine form is concerned: it would really be worth finding the extra cash to put it on an ad-free server...I'm no techie, but I've never seen a free server that wasn't riddled with ads.
From what I can tell, many of those servers get hit with search programs that pick up on keywords within site content and then send roughly a zillion ads for things/products that might relate, with no regard for the overall content or message of the site.
The LAST thing we'd need is to get this project going, only to have it spammed with crawl ads for CAN events, quack "cures", or "schools" like JRC......
I'll go for a web-site adfree or not. I'll go for making a submissions thread. And I'll go for discussing stuff via pm.
Hi Aubie, and thanks for the offer. We haven't yet decided on a name for the e-zine, and we who've volunteered our services as editors etc. have yet to have a first meeting.
What type of business is it that you & your hubby has? And when you have time to write - what is it you write?
I didn't write anything in me profile at first but added things later. It would be interesting to know a little more.
Tomas
*waves to Aubie* Thanks! Just the sort of thing we'd need.
Luai - submissions via forum in that manner would work better with scheduling....couldn't we just add that forum to this site? Or is that what you meant?
*waves large feathered red hat*
First and foremost we need:
-Decision on format/place of publishing
-Decision on the name....
