There are severe limitations on rodent models for neuropsychiatric research. My own lab has a meta-hypothesis: "Mice possibly might not be humans." This is based on structural and functional comparisons of DNA promoter sequences. Yes, the protein-coding sequences are very similar, but similarity drops off rapidly when you're talking about the non-coding sequences that determine "on", "off", "when", and "how much".
