after our son (3) has been diagnosed "suspicion" of early choldhood autism (ICD-10 F 84-0.V) we have been offered a place in a specialized preschool group / kindergarten (6 children, 4 staff) starting august. At the moment he is in an "integrative" kindergarten because of a diagnosis of retarded speech development (his group: 16 children, 3 staff). Since jan 23 he has got a hearing aid.
We are still unsure if we want this change of environment, especially because his kindergarten now is at 800 meters (0.5 mi) and the specialized kindergarten is at 6 km (4 mi), so he would have to take the bus (that's organized). Also, he would lose the chance of regularly contacting NT children of his age. And, there is the alternative to have him attend a kindergarten for the hearing impaired (50% of the children there have no hearing problems).
Any one who has watched a similar child's development from age 3 to 6?
Depends if he is happy where he is. If so, it's probably better not to move him but if he is struggling and unhappy, it might be worth giving the other place a try.
I never went to preschool, so I don't know.

I'd say follow Pakrat's advice.
I went to preschool but was the smallest in my group and was bullied a lot, including being knocked out several times and getting concussion. Back then, I had no idea why kids didn't want to play with me and the teacher was no real help.
I'd agree with Pakrat: if he's happy don't move him.
My son was offered a place at a "more specialised" nursery at 4 but I chose to keep him where he was. It wasn't a popular choice with the professionals but it was the right one. He loved going there and I didn't see the point in moving him.
I agree; it would upset his routine and he'd probably regress - at least for a while. Different if he were very unhappy - then it would perhaps be better to try something different.
