Isn't taking advantage of glitches cheating?
Like the 'W-item trick' in Final Fantasy VII.
Elder Scrolls IV is a MMORPG right?
(Never played Final Fantasy VII, so scratching head in wonder)
Well, taking advantage of glitches MAY be cheating, but not all cheating is "Bad". At least, what I'm trying to say is, it's more like taking advantage of a poorly defined contract: since the game-makers left the mistake there, that pretty much gives you free reign over what to do with it.
Also, Elder Scrolls IV IS a MRPG (Massive Roll-Playing Game), but is not an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Roll-Playing Game), because while it IS massive, there is no online, or multiplayer, to speak of.
(Perhaps important to note that, never having owned a PC, I am going by the Xbox 360 version, although, to my knowlege, the PC version has no online/multiplayer, either)
Thanks for the info.
Outside the small niche of JRPG's (Japanese role-playing games) my knowledge of RPGs is quite limited. I didn't even know MRPG's existed. I will have to try it one out one day.
Well, I actually kind of made up the term MRPG (massive role-playing game), I think (someone check on this for me, please), but the game REALLY is worth the money ($50?) that it costs; I am someone who usually finishes games really fast ( lego Star Wars II [PSP] in 4 days; Prey [Xbox 360] in three days {no joke} ; Psychonauts [Original Xbox] in five days), but I have had Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for TWO MONTHS (I've played it about 120 total hours, No Exaggeration), and am STILL not tired of it, and have not even finished 2/3 of the entire gameplay; all that NOT INCLUDING the uploads provided by Bethasda Game Studios on Xbox Live.
This game is REALLY HUGE.
I tend to take my time playing through RPG's. The longest it has taken me to complete a game was FFVIII. That took me about 60 hours. So y the time I had finished Elder Scrolls the next installment would probably be out.
Well, I suppose that I should have made it clearer that I do really take my time with RPGs (and other games) ; I just have a lot of time to play them, so I normally finish pretty fast; not so with this game!
Also, if the next installment did come in before the time you were finished, this game is still worth a purchase. Anyway, it will probably be at least untill December '07; If how long it took for this game to be made is any indication, it may even be another 3 years after that, sometime in december 2010, but this game should have enough fuel to suit you untill then, and more besides. For a good (and funny) review, you may want to check out X-Play's "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Review," available for free on Itunes' Podcasts.
"Find Him, and close shut the jaws of Oblivion"
Also, I noticed that, whenever you shoot an arrow inside a building, the game labels it as partly not yours.
That means, if you put the crosshair on it, the text says "Steal...Arrow."
But, the COLOR of the crosshair stays the same.
Also, if you do "Steal" the arrow, no one notices; not the guards, nor the other people around you.
Doesn't really affect your gameplay, just something I noticed.

For the Umbra sword, the best sword in the game, go south of the Imperial waterfront to a place called "Old Bridge." Then, follow the road the the west to some ruins whose name starts witha "V." Enter the ruins, then go to the end. there will be this woman called "Umbra," who tells you "Umbra. It is Everything!" She will fight if you attack her; BEWARE: she is VERY strong, and VERY tough to kill. once you kill her, however, her body will have a sword called "Umbra," which has a "soul trap for 30 seconds on strike," with an ability to be used (120?) times without needing recharged. As this sword is required for one of the Deadric missions, you cannot throw it away or lose it.
you bought it on the Xbox360?
bad move in the long run....
see,we PC Gamers get a little something called the 'Modding community'
for Example,in Morrowind, the game that preceded Oblivion,i have both the First Tisgri(Clouds sword from AV) and the Manasume(Sephiroths Blade).
you on the 360,however...you dont get that OR the TES:CS (The Elder Scrolls:Construction Set)
with that, you can make you own items, quests, heck, you can almost make a second Timeral or Vardenfell.
(reading back, that sounds really snobbish...but i cant be bothered to correct it)
oh,and the Umbra sword in Morrowind is in the mountains behind...oh whats it called.....Suran.but beware, you have to kill Umbra to get it,and, good guthix,he is HARD.
i personally created a glove that had a fire damage on target 20-28 area 10 foot.acts like a 20mm grenade shell

just levitate above him and blast him,but be careful a:he doesnt do a mirror spell, because that will kill you even though god mode and b:you have enough charge to keep blasting him.you'll need something like the Dark Brotherhood gloves.
if anyone wants it,i'll send you my save game for TES3:Morrowind
Yay! Someone besides Me posted on my thread! (Precious...My Precious...Wait -- wrong game, that).
ANYwho, I WOULD have bought the PC version, IF I Had a P.C....
But, That's okay; I barely had enough money to buy the 360, and can't afford to get a P.C on top of, or even in place of, that; even if I could, it would probably be some windows '95 or '98, with not only an inabilty to play E.S. IV, but not even a USB slot (Such as my aunt has... doesn't have an eternet port OR a stinkin'
PHONE LINE input either, now that I think about it). I can't even afford the $87.00 wireless cord for the 360, either.
BUT, that's Okay; (I had my Coffee today; Can you tell?)

The Xbox 360 version with only the basic, standalone game suits me fine just now, and should for a long time (although, I DO wish there was a way to purchase the game "updates" without buying the 360 wireless port...).
Anyway, this Forum can discuss both the 360 and the P.C. version of the game, so don't be put off by the fact that I have been discussing primarily the 360 version.
One more thing: On the 360 version at least, Umbra is a she; Also, I did warn people that Umbra is VERY strong (Didn't I? I thik I did...).
That's awesome!!
May explain why I have taken to introducing myself as Umbra and walking around saying "Umbra. It is Everything!"

Anyway, how did you figure that out? is it, like, on wikipedia or something?
****Note (This just goes to show my inability to NOT notice pointless little things everywhere) : I said, on a previous thread:

Not only should I have started that sentence with a capital ("Once", not "once"), but I also should have, instead of "without needing recharged," said either "without needing to be recharged" or without needing recharging.
OH, okay; that explains it.
Anyway, just bought Shivering Aisles (Is that how it's spelled?).
Have'nt gotten time to even BEGIN to play it, though... (Stupid school...)
ANYway, could someone PLEASE help me find the boots in the Knights Of The Nine quest? I don't know where to go, or how to get there. I gave up on it after about two weeks of searching.
Never played it but must say I was dead upset when my partner had to kill the cute gay vampire bloke who was so lovely

I challenge you to a Deathmatch, in your game of choice.
I am sure I would beat you, every time.

I agree, because I generally don't play games that require acting quickly, and while I enjoy certain adventure games and puzzles, otherwise computer games aren't for me. (I like watching people play games sometimes though, depending on the game)
There's a new game out which is adventure/mystery etc, it's called "Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened" and is getting good reviews... sounds like something you would enjoy. Doesn't require any "reacting quickly" at all, it's more adventure/sleuthing.
I'm going to see if I can get my hands on it.

My partner played it and it seemed pretty good (he's into Lovecraft RPGs), glad it's getting good reviews in the US because PC Gamer in the UK totally trashed it (I think the review was entitled "Yes ***, Sherlock"
The only annoying thing is that it lets you interact or try to interact with objects that you can't use yet (because the story hasn't progressed far enough), which can get a bit annoying because the character keeps going "I can't do that yet!" all the time!
I'm surprised you even knew what I was talking about, even more surprised that you have played/seen the game yourself!
One game you probably wouldn't enjoy much (but is great to watch because the atmosphere is just fantastic) is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It probably has some similarities to Sherlock Holmes: Awakened but is a lot more action oriented.
I played through CoC
CotE once and loved it--talk about an underrated game.
