I am VERY into writing horror stories. They intrigue me like only sports (or Digimon, give or take) can. I've been thinking...about writing a horror story starring some of you guys here at Aspies For Freedom. If you'd care to contribute to my story or actually STAR in it, then I'd be happy to hear so

! If you decide to STAR in it, you can either make up a character or decide to use part of your username. So, please reply. And another thing, WHO ELSE LIKES WRITING HORROR STORIES OR ACTION/THRILLER STORIES?
I've made some attempts at writing "horror" stories. My main inspiration is Lovecraft. I like the obsessive narrative in his works.
Another author that have sniffed on the horror idea is my all-time favorite Richard Brautigan, his novel "The Hawkline Monster: a gothic western", is a very weird story.
Argentinian Jorge Luis Borges wrote a couple of volumes of short stories in the 1940ies, with one story dedicated to Lovecraft. Borges was a poet and I specially like his later works from the 60ies and onwards up until his demise in 1986. He had turned completely blind in 1960 and had to memorise and dictate his works.
What are your thoughts on time and place for the story...
yes I'd be interested...I'm actually working on my own right now but lack of motivation/inspiration are getting me down. It's hard to be original anymoyy.
Yeah, I've been suffering some 'creative juice shortage' recently, too. I've probably attempted to type about 11 different stories, but something always comes up and I lose interest.
I write horror stories...allegedly...hoping the horror part will be that they're scary, not that they're terrible.

My current project (aka That *^$% Book That's Eaten My Life) is a collection of thirteen loosely linked horror tales. Four down, nine to go. *sigh*
As for influences: Lovecraft (you could probably figure that out from my signature), Stephen King (of course), Thomas Harris, and Harlan Ellison (he, especially, makes me feel like a quacking idiot in comparison.)
My stories are very strange and sometimes unsettling, but I don't think I've ever deliberately set out to write horror. It's a little weird, since I enjoy reading it...I prefer psychological thrillers to buckets of gore and splatter, though. I mean, I have nothing against blood & guts, but it's just not effective as a scare if there's no suspense. Sometimes insinuated things are actually creepier than those that are shown explicitly, I think.
Harlan Ellison is great. I hear he's kind of a jerk in person, but most of his stories are brilliant. I also like Gahan Wilson, Steve Rasnic Tem, Melanie Tem and Poppy Z. Brite. Some of Neil Gaiman's stuff is rather disturbing, although I don't think I consider it quite horror. I should read Lovecraft, I keep wanting to and then getting distracted by something else.
The blood and guts thing is really kind of petty, anyway. There's a difference between fear and disgust; and good horror, whether it evokes disgust or not, always involves fear. Whether your reader actually feels fear or not isn't the point; it's exploring that emotion that's important.
Also very cliched in horror: Insanity. It's much scarier to show how "insane" perfectly ordinary people can be. That, in fact, is what a lot of good horror does: It puts normal people into extreme situations and explores their reactions.
One of my more terrible and semi-horiffic shorties is called "En Attendant Mon Dieu", or "Waiting for my God". It's about a nameless guy. I wouldn't pass it out as a horror story. It's more about inserting the wrong thing in a concoction of words and text, thus creating an unease with conflicting feelings or moods. The "EAMD" story is also laden with slap-stick humour and absurdity.
I've tried writing horror exclusively but haven't gotten very far before I packed up and gone on to something else...
My first two completed stories were more Action Thriller stories than horror. They're called 'Murderous' & 'Murderous 2'. Both star characters from Digimon and my ESE Liaison from Elementary School is a cold-blooded killer who tries to slay the Digidestined but ends up getting arrested and sentenced to lethal injection in the Sarasota County Court (I live in the Florida bay area).
Speaking of stories, I just got a good idea for a story starring some of the people on this site, including (but not limited to):
Meiloyn
SoccerFreak248 (or is it SoccerFreak249?)
jaime
Gareth
Wolfy
etcetra (the rest I haven't planned yet)
I will holla atcha later as events develop.

You could star in this story, Xen. How about that?
A few years ago, I was part of an online group of people around Australia who used to write interactive horror stories: they included "Terror In The Tax Office", "Terror In The Tax Office 2", and several others which will come back to me soon I'm sure.

I'll star in it, son ;]
surprised you didn't pick me from the get go
I like M. Night Shamylan's films. He writes the screen plays and directs them.
I wonder if anyone writes books like that.
Hi, DigiModify. I'd be happy to star in your horror story but not as ichtms though. I've got a character by the name of Stroder. He's still undeveloped. I think he acts as an observer most of the time, blending in with the surroundings.

Oops...Don't worry, I'll add you in.
