People who act interfering and overbearing and yet don't help in any practical way.

I so agree with you about both of these. Topped off by someone asking me what's wrong or being told to cheer up.

In a way that makes a lot of sense, it's like I watch football, I support man Utd but i'm not an obsessed fan as such. That does not mean i don't like them or want them to do well or keep an interest in what is going on.

That is why I like to know things. It also works the other way, if our train bfeaks down and someone says how long will we be i will tell them i do not know and expect the worst if we can't tell you anything.

Canned laughter gives me the irrits. It is boring and pointless and makes the viewers out to be idiots ie. they don't know when to laugh at the lame-o jokes so they have to be prompted.

Who decided it was a wise idea in the first place?

I don't know, but I wish I did so I could send them some stroppy letters about their stupid canned laughter.

It is totally pointless. I have never seen why people thought it was a good idea.

Yes, me too. Some people are just so (too) noisy. They should take some quiet pills.

It is quite strict, we have city wardens who moniter things like anti social behaviour, littering and I presume will have some sort of role when the no smoking ban comes in in July.

And nu-cu-lar and sked-u-al and one of my all-time pet peeve mispronunciations: artic.

I don't usually like to correct people for mispronunciations but would find it hard to restrain myself if somebody said "artic" in my hearing.
Another one that really really vexes me is when people say "haitch". It is spelt "aitch" and so that is the way it should be pronounced. I've noticed even quite well educated people making this error and have to really stop myself from saying how annoying I find it as they would probably think I was making a fuss about nothing.

Well, I suppose you could have a pet hate about something that your pets do.

The opposite is annoying too, people who are constantly optimistic and happy. They drive me crazy.
If a person has a genuine reason to be up or down then so be it. I just don't like fake happiness or pretending more is wrong than it actually is.
