So I just want some opinions on this. I don't know if it's an aspie thing or just a me thing. I find it fascinating to watch squirrels. You know why? Squirrels act like they are constantly tripping on speed, and they've also had ten cups of coffee on top of that. I just think it's amazing how hyper they are. They're fun to watch. They're all over the college campus where I go to school. So I just stop in my tracks and stare at them. I do it all the time. I'm on my way to class, I see a squirrel burying a nut, and I just stop and stare until he goes away. Sometimes I just stand there for like 5 minutes straight, and I would stay there longer if there wasn't other people around staring at me like I have 2 heads. People think I'm so weird for doing that, and I don't understand why. Anyone else have similar experiences, or am I just a nutcase?
Yeah, I watch squirrels, birds, deer, and in fact any animal I see for as long as I can. I especially like watching insects. I don't think it's weird, but I think Aspies are more inclined to do it than NT people.
Watching squirrels is perfctly normal... They always come on the fence outside my window...
I like to watch the crane that sometimes goes by the canal near where I live on my way to school, cool bird...
I caught a Squirrel once using heavy gloves. It was climbing my brick house. When I let it go 10 minutes later it jumped from the box, ran 8 feet up an oak tree, then turned around (head-down), looked me square in the eye and 'chewed me out' loudly for 5 minutes straight!! And that's my first post.
lol... what was the squirrel doing with heavy gloves...
lol... what was the squirrel doing with heavy gloves...
Like I said, it was climbing my brick house! Bricks are abrasive y'know?
Hey if you like watching squirrels, try this: go off in the woods a ways, sit in a comfortable position, throw some food out 20 feet in front of you, and be absolutely still (except for breathing) for an hour. All manner of creatures will appear. Don't do this in bear, cougar, or wolf country (usa) and ??? elsewhere. -Jay
hmmm... maybe I'll try that sometime...
oooooooooooooooooooo. i definitely need to try that sometime. thanks for that idea.
i like watching animals its very enjoyible and a good way to forget about stress. not to mention the fact that you can learn life lessons from the actions of some animals

(i.e. never giving up)
Right...
I like to be reminded that however prosperous the human race is in its own mind we are only a tiny fraction of a percentage of the natural life in the world. Come to think of it I haven't watched animals for a while... I'll leave early tomorow and do that in the canal/marsh area near the bike path I ride to school on... <sigh> I need to get out of suburbia for a bit... Need to be in a forest of some sort... meh...
You let your cat drop squirrel entrails on your chest while in bed? How incredibly...tolerant of you.
Anyways, I am too fascinated by animal behaviour. Squirrels, Meerkats, Lemurs are among the most amusing.
i will quite often stop and watch animals...i dont think anything of it.
Squirrels are so cute. Why do people hate them?
Yeah, the Eastern Gray Squirrels are an invasive species in many areas, including here in California. The only squirrels I see on campus are Eastern Grays, no Westerns at all. It seems that the Westerns are perfectly able of holding their own in rural/undeveloped areas because they are larger than Eastern Grays, but in suburban areas the Easterns dominate because they are not afraid of humans (whereas Westerns are quite wary of us and try to avoid us - they usually won't let you get any closer than 20 feet away from them).
It's too bad, because Eastern Gray Squirrels look like crap compared to Western Gray Squirrels. And Western Grays have much fluffier tails.
