Here's what I made... I think it looks cool
It's not a pastel rainbow like the official AFF symbol, and it's vertical with a black background instead of horizontal with a blue bacground... but still, rainbow+infinity symbol.
I don't have any actual image-editing tools, so all I used was MS Paint, the one that comes with Windows, and the Sharpness tool from a photo editing program that came with my printer.
Whoops, it's not supposed to be that big...

Yes, but it's a combination between 2D and 3D. That's new XD.
I need to make the edges more clear, then... darker, anyway.

I think a thicker outline and more shading where it crosses will produce a more 3D appearance.

I made myself a rainbow infinity symbol as well, using photoshop. All I did really was type the numbr 8, rotate it sideways, distort it (one side of the infinity was larger), and added a grandient overlay. I typed my own signature
"I'm so proud to be autistic, sometimes I say it too much" That's because I tell my friends I have it after around 3 weeks of knowing them, which is a habit I sort of want to break.

That's great! Major props to you for doing it in Paint - even with the how-to it sounds like a arduous process.
I tried to make my own rainbow symbol when I needed graphics for my new blog, but I ran out of patience messing around with curves and lines trying to get an infinity symbol that didn't look totally pants. If only I'd thought of your four-way flip trick!
So I gave up and did two linked rings instead. It was done in GIMP, I started with a transparent background, then used the draw-circle tool to create the inside and outside edge of the two rings, erased a bit so they overlapped, then filled the lot with a colour spectrum filter. Then pasted it onto a black background.
Apologies in advance if this is huge...
