I am just curious as to whether anyone else has an interest in the Harry Potter books/films here? I consider it one of my major interests, and I go through phases where I get deeply involved in analysing characters and possible outcomes etc, especially Severus Snape...very interesting character.
I love Harry Potter! I own all the books so far, and all the movies so far, even though I don't trust their information. There are many hidden meanings and spoilers in the way JK Rowling writes. You have to read carefully to find them. (concerning something terrible that happens in the Half-Blood Prince)
I find her books incredibly intricate, and am sure not all children will pick up on some of the more subtle undertones. I new who the hbp was when the title was released, it made sense since Snape has always seemed to me to be a very important character. I wish those who have seen the movies, but not read the books, would read the books as they miss out on so much otherwise.
Do you have any theories on what will happen in the final book? I don't like to guess too much, but have considered the possibility of Harry's death and Snape redeeming himself by saving another.

WARNING SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! READ AT THY OWN RISK!!!!!!!
I have a feeling Harry may commit suicide since evidence points to him possibly being the final horcrux, in order to defeat Voldemort. Rowling says the final word of the book is "scar", so it could be a cliffhanger, Harry putting his wand against his scar.
Also, I think Dumbledore may return in a more powerful form. If you noticed, many old, wise wizards in other stories reappear after dying. Gandalf the Grey in Lord of the Rings returned as Gandalf the White after defeating the Balrog in Khazad Dum. Also, Merlin dies and is resurrected again in the Tales of King Arthur. Obi Wan Kenobi allowed Darth Vader to kill him and guides Luke as a spirit. It is possible that Dumbledore may do the same thing, and there is the possibility he could also be a Phoenix animagus, and used the phoenix's resurrection to return to life. The end of the book said that Harry saw a phoenix in the sky, or something like that.
I'm not really satisfied with the title of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I guess I wanted the book to be nameless.
Lol, I almost gasped in horror when I recently saw the title of the final book, it just doesn't seem to do it justice. It doesn't have any power behind it. I hadn't thought of Harry committing suicide, but I do believe he is a horcrux, definitely. Dumbledore...hmm, had to say really, I don't think he will return as I believe that Snape has been an equally, if not more powerful wizard all along...and you recognise this importance with the title of the 6th book essentially being 'Snape'. Do you think Snape is on anyone's side other than his own? I have thought much about the ending of hbp, and it is notable that he doesn't harm Harry, even given a chance... he could easily have done some sort of harm, or taken him, but he does not. That got me thinking, but then, I have never considered him to be bad... just flawed.

That's true. One could name any book The Deathly Hallows. The Deathly Hallows doesn't have that final tone around it. It doesn't sound like The End, or the Final Battle, or something. But then again, we had barely any idea about who the Half-Blood Prince was, and why it was called that until we read the book. I guess we have to read The Deathly Hallows to see why Rowling named it that way.
I think Snape could be unsure whose side he's on. He might be a confused double agent. He is a former death eater, He saved Harry from Quirrel's spell, He looked for Harry underneath the Willow (He said he found Harry on the marauder's map), He was in Slytherin and head of Slytherin house, He hated Harry's father and his friends, he volunteered to teach Harry Occlumency, he has favourites in his House, he made a promise with Narcissa to protect Draco, and he killed Dumbledore. Also, Dumbledore trusted him with the Defense Against the Dark Arts job in book six, and he certainly isn't an idiot, so there must be a meaning behind that, too. Snape is certainly an interesting character.
I think Harry will either commit suicide or try to find a way around it. (Now I'm reminded of Final Fantasy X.) Or it could be that Voldemort had only made a Horcrux out of Harry's body or his soul. More likely his soul because the two have a telepathic connection.
Well, we have until June or July to wait.. I forget what the release date is for the final book, but I know it is released same sort of time frame as the 5th film. I am a little annoyed they are releasing them at the same time. What do you think of the actors who have played Dumbledore? I preferred Richard Harris to Michael Gambon. And I thought Emma Thompson overplayed Trelawney, which is a shame as she is a good actress.

... what? Who's the Dumbledore that died? I liked the new one better because his voice is better, although he could act more fatherly as kind headmaster of Hogwarts. And I think "Emma" did fine, whoever she is.

That would be Richard Harris.
I like Harry Potter too. Seen all the movies so far, and I have them on DVD. Surprisingly enough, my dad likes Harry Potter too, and he is notoriously difficult to please when it comes to that sort of thing.
I am also kind of a fan of Prof. Snape (although I wouldn't like to meet him in person) as I think he is an interesting character. (And Alan Rickman has been one of my fav. actors ever since I saw him in "the Barchester Chronicles." and also "Galaxy Quest.")
Actually the tentative release date for "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" is November 2007.
Meiloyn, kiddo, you have the same idea about Harry being the final horcrux that I got. Friends think I'm nuts, and one friend actually had some good reasons why he can't be, but JKR is so good at planting red herrings.
But that dang scar is involved. Why would Harry have those "dreams" about Voldemort? That connection. And the fact that both wands contain part of the same phoenix feather...
Here at the bookstore I bought the last HP book at, there was a Harry Potter party at the greens behind the bookstore, and it was really fun. I went to see the kids, because kids were encouraged to dress as their favorite characters. What I saw was even more spectacular--whole families dressed as wizards and witches. There were magicians and jugglers, and a tarot card reader, and a Sorting Hat that sorted people into houses, and all kinds of things. The restaurants and the candy store on the Green stayed open until midnight to accommodate the crowds waiting for the book to be released at midnight, as it was November, and a cold, blustery night at that, but it didn't stop anyone. There was even an "official" Dumbledore.
Anyone else go to something like this?
Metta, Jaye
Anyone else go to something like this?
No. Sounds like fun.
<beaming> I adore Harry Potter!
Between books, I reread the previous ones and try to deduce what will happen next, and how it will end. Right now, I'm not sure what I think about Harry or his scar being the final Horcrux, but I am wondering about Godric Gryffindor's sword...
And I firmly believe Snape and Dumbledore planned Dumbledore's death and intended it to happen that way. Snape is on the side of right.
Jaye, for the book six, I attended a book release party. It was overwhelming, but so neat. There was this really funny group of guys in costume, with "Voldemort" and a "Dementor" chasing "Dumbledore", and "Dumbledore" trying to recruit new Order members from the crowd.

Hi, Athie--
Yeah, there were some great things that went at the party I was at. When I got overwhelmed, I was able to find a seat and just watch. I actually escaped into the candy store (bad move--got some chocolate) just to catch up to myself.
The best part was when the books were finally being distributed, and as soon as the kids got their books, they were seated under the Victorian street lamps avidly reading their new books. It was so cool to see the range of ages of people reading the books. With the combination of darkness, a soft mist, and the yellow glow of the street lamps, it was a lovely and festive, and reminded me of that Christmas-y feel of childhood.
It'll be sad and fun when the last book comes out.
Metta, Jaye.

Well, butter my butt, and call me a bun--
Release date for "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" is July 21st, 2007...
Metta, Jaye

Yay release date! A week after movie 6 comes out, too. July will be quite an exciting month for us...
I wonder why the 21st? A lot of us thought it would be the 7th...you know, 7/07/07. Or Harry's birthday.
As always, I'm going to read way too much into this...but that's part of the fun.
<hugs>
