They don't seem aware that there *is* such a thing as being high-functioning.

Otherwise, I can see catching it early. But there's a big difference on the spectrum, you know?
I would also question why we should have to "fight" autism. Shouldn't we be concentrating on "fighting" the ignorance in society about this condition or "fighting" the prejudice and discrimination against people with autism when they are trying to access schooling, medical help (eg. diagnoses), housing, and employment.
I think this has been said many times before, but perhaps they should focus on finding a cure for conditions that actually kill people? (eg. cancer, heart disease)
I think so too. That would be more useful.

From what I've seen what most people really listen to is studies that waste tax payer money to tell us something obvious. Can we get someone to fund a study that can show our society is better with a cure for cancer then autism?

Or they could do something else like rooting out paedophilia.
Ichtms, part of the trouble with paedophilia is that some people really high up in society (even judges) are involved and they all look out for each other and find ways to evade justice. But given the severe damage this causes to children (and the real possiblity that victims of abuse grow up to be abusers themselves), it should be made a far higher priority than silly studies that don't prove anything worthwhile.

That would be great.
