Quote:
"But recently, more psychiatrists have been asking whether in some cases drugs are being prescribed for children who do not need them, or for problems that fall within the spectrum of normal behavior. The doubters are especially concerned with the growing use of drug combinations for preschoolers.

Fate Riske, 3, of Fond du Lac, Wis., takes two antipsychotics and a sleeping medicine to control what her mother, Elizabeth Klein-Riske, said were hours-long tantrums, a desire to watch the same movies repeatedly and an insistence on eating the meat, cheese and bread in her sandwiches separately.

On a recent visit, Fate played sweetly for four hours as her parents, who both have trouble walking, sat in front of a television. Sucking on a pacifier, Fate showed off her pink dress and matching shoes.

Mrs. Klein-Riske credited the drugs for Fate’s cherubic behavior during the visit. But a few weeks on a different antipsychotic led Fate to become aggressive, talk rapidly and “run around wild, totally out of control,” said Mrs. Klein-Riske, who receives government financial and child-care assistance because her daughter is considered mentally ill.

Fate’s weight ballooned in five months to 48 pounds from 30."

For pre-schoolers? For PRE-SCHOOLERS???? That's just WRONG!

Her tantrums should have a reason behind them. That reason is the key to stopping tantrums. And medication for watching movies repeatedly and eating sandwich ingredient seperately? For goodness sakes she's only THREE!!!!!

How mean!
There is such a thing as throwing drugs at a problem to avoid trying to get at the real cause.
O.m.f.g.

That is cruelty, pure and simple.
I didn't get that when I was three and a temper-tantrum, and here I am now, happy at being me. They had no right to do that to a three year old!
If you line up various doses of drugs, you could control the entire population to be be more productive, elss violent and work longer hours; the thing is, it'd be utterly unethical, so how the heck do they get away with doing it in these sort of cases?

I mean, even if she IS psychopathic, what's the worse a preschooler could do? - I'll bet it doesn't involve machetes or firearms anyway XDDD

Nah, that's plain scarey, replacing parenthood and teaching a child, with cocktails of drugs
okay, i'm getting really sick- literally- of hearing about kids being abused. it seems to me that these days people will do absolutley anything to avoid parenting their children. "oh look what a cherub our little zombie is! see how she stares blankly at the television and we can completley ignore her." this is so infuriating! it seems that there are far too many people who only have children because they either think it's not optional or they want some kind of a pet to parade around and "show off her pretty pink dress and matching shoes" gag- excuse me i need to go vomit.
That's just disgusting! Some people shouldn't have children, especially if they would rather drug their children instead of doing real parenting.
I am shocked and/or appalled.

It just goes to show how much some people have the desire to fit in and not be strange that they will drug up their own children if they do anything that may be percieved as not the norm no matter how small it is.

It is sickening, I bet one day parents will make their children take drugs because they are not blinking in unison with the rest of their class.
ANTIPSYCHOTICS??????? AT THREE????????????? This is another reminder of how ignorant some people. Would that mother drug her daughter if she were NORMAL and having tantrums? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. GOD, LADY! GET A LIFE!
A three year old is way too big to have a pacifier, too. They should have got rid of that when she was much littler.

The most worrying aspect of her behaviour was the tantrums. The other things were just normal behaviour and should have not been worried about.

A visit to a qualified medical practitioner might have been able to get to the bottom of the tantrums. Sometimes these are caused by frustration from impairments in hearing or vision.
