Hi. I recently discovered what asperger's is, and to my surprise, it was an autobiography of my life. I am pretty sure I have it, and talked to my girlfriend who also agrees that I probably do. I have taken the online tests, and they all indicate that I am most likely an Aspie. So my question is, where do I go for an official diagnosis? Is it something that I have to go to a private psychologist and pay $$$$$$$ for? (If so, its not that important. I would just like to have a confirmation.) Or is it something a regular doctor could diagnose? Any suggestions? I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.
Hi Obsessive, don't know if your regular doctor would know enough about Asperger's to diagnose it...I got my diagnosis from a psychologist who works for my state's vocational rehab agency, so it cost me nothing; if you are a client of such a place yourself, you could ask them about a diagnosis.  Or ask your doctor if he can refer you to a psychologist who charges on a sliding scale, so you could pay whatever you can afford.  These are just two ideas, maybe someone else will think of something better.  Also, some people prefer to remain self-diagnosed or to get an unofficial diagnosis so it doesn't go into their medical records...
