Anyone a fan? Matthew Gray Gubler who plays Spencer Reid describes his character as someone with "minor autism.. Asperger's Syndrome" and goes on to say that his character has something like 3 phDs.. and you can't achieve that without a touch of autism.
Dunno if that was the way his character was supposed to be but thats obviously the way he plays his character.
So yeah, Spencer Reid, officially Aspie.
I actually wouldn't call Aspergers "minor autism" as it still has pervasive effects on the individual's abilities to communicate and make their place within society.

Yo, you're right... but you know, that's the way AS is presented to the world. When somebody asks "What the **** is AS?" he probably will hear "Some kinda minor autism..." Well, you can't do anything against it, can you?

Spencer Reid? Oh yeah, I kinda like this one. I'm watching the series since it's on TV and when I saw him the first time I said tada! he's aspie! NO one believed me, but in my mind I was sure he is. Now I have the official confirmation and I will run through the house the rest of the day and shout "I was right!!!"Big Grin (that's a joke... but i'm truly happy.

LOL -- that's true. You say "it's kind of like mild autism" and they go "Ooh. Yes. I see. Yes, of couse." -- even though they know absolutely nothing about autism, either. Wink
Well, compared to Kanner's autism, you have to admit it's minor. Using speech is a BIG part of how people see you; and Aspies' speech may be formal or idiosyncratic, but it's there and it's communicative. We don't have to jump nearly as many hurdles as classical auties have to jump. Someone with Kanner's is just about as autistic compared to an Aspie, as an Aspie is compared to an NT. And if you were to add autism+MR or Rett Syndrome... well, then we might as well not be autistic at all.

"Minor autism" is kinda like saying "minor pregnancy"... it's going to have a big effect on your life even if you have only a touch of it. Tongue

Yo - true. I know, if I just speak to guys at school, they won't recognise I'm aspie... you can use this effect very well...Big Grin
Some friends/teachers of mine didn't believe me when I told them - but maybe this has also to do with what people expect from an autistic.
