I tell ya, I've had some cruel aides. But the cruelist aide I've ever had has revealed herself. Not only is she mean to Autistics (ie Degrading Jokes), she also seems to favor black students over other races. She also seems uneducated about Autism. I'm tinking that might be the reason she is harder on me and another student that as signs of Asperger's. So now I ask this: Has anyone had an aide/teacher that was either uneducated in autism or was prejudicial towards autism or both? If so, de tell.
Makes me wonder how they can even keep their job if they're so hopeless at working with autistic people.
They only need to appear good. To the right people.
And maybe sleep with the right people too.
When I was in high school, I peer-tutored the students with autism.  (I wasn't diagnosed until college.)  This one aid we had for awhile was training me to work with a student with Kanner's autism who didn't speak.  The student made sounds, but not words.  The aid would ask a question and the student had to sign the answer -- well, sometime the student would make a particular sound instead and the aid told him to sign the answer because he couldn't talk.
And we had a sign language interprter/aid for a deaf student with Down's and she always yelled at the student then would go over and sign to him. Odd how yelling never got his attention or fazed him. LOL.
My aide doesn't seem to understnad that drawing keeps my feelings in check. She also has a voice that makes her sound menacing, and she keeps stating the complete obvious. If everyone recieved a sheet of paper with an article on it, she goes right over to me and tells me that the class is reading the paper, as if I were completely clueless about what is going on.

I wish I didn't have an aide. It would really make life easier for me.
Have had bad and good at college.

The one for fitness/pe was awful.
shes called person selfish and rude on so many occasions, when have never tried to be,she also shouted at me everytime the loud speaker in the hall [this was a sports centre, they said the loud speaker was broke so volume couldnt be turned down] went off and set off meltdowns and overloads.

But,another support worker in english class was the nicest person had ever met-understood everything and was very nice, her grown up son is autistic as well so that probably helped.

Now that whole stating the obvious stuff is pretty annoying. It hasn't really happened to me, but it is (in my opinion) one of the worst types of degrading talk. It just makes people feel depressed and unworthy.

I had one that was both uneducated and prejudicial.  From what I heard, she got fired a couple of years later for slapping a student.

I only ever had 1 aid. I dont know why they thought Id need her heck sure i have AS but ahh my best grades were ALWAYS in computing so why they thought Id need her there I got no clue. Maybe it was cos I only had 2 subjects & they had to keep up appearences or something so they just gave her to me. She was actually an insanely nice person to every1 but umm well they shouldnt get aids that dont actually KNOW wat their doing perhaps. After the 1st week she realised I didnt need her help at all, after a while she kept asking me how to do things & sometime later she would always ask to look at my work to make sure she was getting the other students she was helping work right.... But man she was virtually computer illierate. Another guy she was helping (I cant mem wat was wrong with him but it was bad) she always did the whole assignment & then the teacher of the class got it, came in, changed about 95% of it & basically they had to start again. I always felt so sry for him cos he had to do twice as much work as the rest of us. Though the teacher of the class was useless herself, only because she was forgetful & got distracted easily. Ud ask her to help u & she says she'll be there in a min, goes to do somehing else some1 else then asks for her help & goes to them & forgets about the 1st person...
