I too know of a bumblebee, and my bumbled attempt to save such... ‘twas the end of a cool ‘beginning-of-autumn-day’, when I saw a ‘slowed-down’ large black-bumblebee making an effort to find its way back to whence it came.
Thought I’d rescue it, shelter it for the night. Quite dead the next morning though, and hence given a ceremonial-burial with a flush in the privy, as our humble abode has not the room in our cupboards.
Always admired these ‘biggest’ of the bees. Unlike its size might suggest, not threatening at all, and is the gentlest of the lot known to me; that are bumbling about, minding their own business, even when themselves are threatened. Another batch of these bees are buzzing around my garden of weeds today.
