What things can minors in England do?
1. One of my current "dreams" is to find other teenage Aspergians who live in New Britain so we can gather around the fire, stim ourselves to death, and plot evil ways to destroy CAN and Autism Speaks. I don't know how I would go about doing this, though.

2. I'll do that if I weren't so shy and lazy about that sort of thing. But I'll try. :3

3. I find telling my entire 8th grade class that I am Aspergian is a rather stupid thing to do, but I have told many of my friends, and I even think one of them is Aspergian! She supports the idea, too.

4. I am doing this already. Usually my conversations with my social worker seem to turn into debates about Autistic rights and my views on CAN's goals.

5. I wish I could join an anti-cure protest group. I want to start one here in New Britain, but I don't know if people will actually take the anti-cure posters I might put on the school walls seriously and join my group, and it sounds really hard.

6. I do this already. :3

7. I do this already.
Meiloyn, I am thinking that "stimming ourselves to death, and plotting evil ways to destroy CAN and Autism Speaks" is not the best means to promote what Gareth is suggesting. I really don't think that in this day and age that terroristic acts will be perceived in a positive light. Just my humble opinion...AWF

Thank you.

I added the disclaimer because people seem to not recognise when I make a joke concerning violence.

The "stimming to death" part means stimming as much as we want.

"Evil" was added as a joke. "Destroy" means to stop CAN and Autism Speaks.

1 - I know one friend who knows alot about the sort of stuff, maybe I'll talk to her...

2 - Will do.

3 - I've started doing that. But mostly only to my friends. I have a feeling that being open about it will only give the bullies another excuse...

4 - I will.

5 - Err....I don't think I could do that, but I'll talk to some of my friends.

6 - One of my adult friends at karate came to me after my old LSA suggested to talk to me about her child who has aspergers. I've been helping her with that.

7 - I'm Aspergers and I'm proud of it. I'm glad I am, since I would hate to be normal.

I thought about your rebuke for awhile. I still fail to understand how Meiloyn's "stimming to death" or "plotting evil ways to destroy...", whether intended as humor or not, furthers the cause Gareth spoke of. I believe it is just that kind of violent talk that gives the public an ill conceived notion of what all autistics might be like - it certainly serves no positive role that I can discern. I fully believe in freedom of speech but there is a responsibility that comes with that right - and sometimes consequences. Just because someone has AS doesn't justify a tourettes fit on the keyboard. If the mods are ok with this kind of input then so be it but I found it disturbing and used my freedom of speech.

Leaving them in doctors waiting rooms or at schools would be a good idea. Not once have I ever seen a leaflet about the autism spectrum, not even from curebies. So getting in there first may produce an advantage of sorts.
By them I meant leaflets.

AWF,
I have a friend who is a pacifist.  She is very sweet and kind.  In science class she refused to kill a fruitfly and look at it under a microscope.  That's how non-violent she is.
And yet she frequently makes violent jokes and comments about "taking a staple gun to the faces of those loggers in the amazon".
Just because you make jokes about something, does not mean you espouse the idea.

I respectfully consider your attitude naive'. My significant other is a schoolteacher in Pennsylvania and a note found in a bathroom with 'violent type' language is cause for a total lockdown and cancellation of all activities for weeks afterwards. I understand that this precaution is taken in all schools through out the United States. Ignoring such 'warning signs' in the past has led to incidences I am sure you have seen in the news.
Further, having a disclaimer to nullify everything you have just written should it offend someone, is ridiculous, irresponsible and cowardly. The author had already lost all validity with me when he subscribed to drug abuse and violence so why would I believe a violent 'stimmer' when he says, "I am just kidding"? This is a violent world where people who make threats often carry them out. Gareth has stated his position and I respect it and don't care to pursue this further. I simply won't read anymore of Meiloyn's post as they are worthless to me with his caveats...

Thanks, Luai.

I had hoped that my exaggeration and jokingness was rather obvious, and I'm glad you understood it. By "stimming to death", I meant that other Aspergians would be allowed to stim as much as they want, not necessarily meaning killing yourself b y stimming. xD I inserted "evil" purely as a joke, and "destroy" means defeat.

I added the disclaimer after I already got misinterpreted on this site, so I decided to take measurements to make sure people don't make this mistake. Apparently it didn't work, but I forgive you, AWF.

AWF, I usually don't make jokes in every post. Most of my posts have an actual, serious meaning to them, so don't stop reading my posts just because of my violent jokes. Also, I am female, but I don't mind being mistaken for male. ^^ I understand that I am both male and female in my mind.
I actually find it quite funny when someone mistakes me for a boy. Especially when my hair used to be down to my waist (and with double D cup... well, you know) and they still did. Rolleyes

But anyway...

These are the easiest ways you can help the cause of autism rights:

1 - Start a local group!

Oh, man. That would be so cool to get into. 'Fraid I don't really have the organisational skills to START anything like that, though. And am hopeless at keeping such things going.

Gareth Wrote:
2 - Write letters to correct ignorant remarks in the media.

Sounds cool.

Gareth Wrote:
3 - Come out as an aspie.

That was difficult, until my mum actually worked it out all by herself. Ten points mum for working it out, and minus twenty for treating me like a retard so soon after. grr.

Gareth Wrote:
4 - Express your views about dubious and harmful therapies, the idea of a cure for autism and prenatal testing.

um.... OK.

Gareth Wrote:
5 - Attend and support protests against curebie groups or organise your own.

Anything happening nearby? No. Bummer.

Gareth Wrote:
6 - Correct misconceptions but don't attack the innocent.

'kay.

Hi, I just discovered your fina organisation and would like to offer my 2 cents.

ALso point out many historicle figures , to friends and when we write to the media, haev or have been suspected of having aspergers.

I went to a boarding school which catered for aspergers and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Here I met many other aspies and therefore I can tell a mile away wether someone or not has it.

So, when I read about people like Stonewall Jackson and Albert Einstein, its almost a givern that they have it. Just read about Jackson's eccentricities, obsssed witht he lentgh of his arms etc. Its classic.

So, pointing out the huge contribuitions we have made to the human race goes a long way.

Hey, why not print leaflets on rice paper? That way, instead of litter, they become food/fertlizer!
