Err, I dont live in the US, but is it often that parents do this-
"Andy would become so engrossed in the television that he didn't notice if someone rattled a can filled with pennies right beside him."
Is it a kind of folk test?

In America, if you are not interested in money, then yes that is VERY disturbing. You know when I worked on wall street as a young man. I had to fake it loving money. My behaviors got to the point, I would have smell money and kiss it to try to convince people I loved it as much as they do.
They would buy fancy cars (yes more than one) talk about their houses they have or want. My interest in keeping the same car disturbed them. and once I said I dont need expensive stuff. I think they caught on after that I was not one of them
Her advice to parents whose children have just been diagnosed? Resist the urge to hide yourself at home
Well, only if you are not really uglly otherwise stay home LOL
the often-disturbing symptoms and lifelong effects of autism can make it just as difficult to cope with as a terminal disease.
The jerk who wrote this article definitely needs to learn more about human diversity.

Oops!
Yes that would be a bit of a give away; and they despise people who don't think as they do, don't they!
So you don't want to join them in their congenital drive to grab it all for themselves? What a sad, dysfunctional, useless piece of humanity you must be!!!
