i have heard people talk about how it is hard to get an official diagnosis. other than that not many proffensionals work with adult aspergers what are the reasons for this?
Other than finding people who dealt with adults, I had zero problems.
Though I will say that of the few people that DO deal with adults, none of them took insurance, but I considered that a minor "bump."
hmm, bigger bump if you're unemployed. thanks for the info.

Well, I assume that you have some insurance despite being unemployed (otherwise them not taking insurance wouldn't be an issue to you). I don't consider it to be that big of a bump because most insurance allows you to see "out of network" doctors, they just pay for less of the cost. For example, my insurance gives me a copay of $15 for an "in-network" psychologist. If I go to an "out of network" psychologist, they pay 80% of whatever the cost is. So if the psychologist charges ....ok, hold on, let me get the calculator....$125 per hour, then 80% of that is $100. That leaves me to pay $25 for the visit, which isn't THAT much more than what I would be paying for an "in network" doctor.
The only time it really caused me concern was that some of the doctors wanted something like $300 for the initial consultation visit, which I think is totally outrageous.
We don't really have that kind of thing in Australia. Private health insurance will pay a portion of the fee (not sure how much) but many people do not take private health insurance (something to do with exorbitant premiums).
The cost of seeing a private professional is out of the reach of poorer people. You can see a public (free) professional but there is a long waiting list.
i have state funded insurance because i have a small child. even $25 an hour would be too much for me. i'm literally living on about $250 a month and thta just pays for food for my son and i.( i live with my mom and she pays mortgage, utillities). i'm not even sure how the "behavioral health program" as they call it works. a doctor explained it to me but he didn't make much sense. the only thing i got from him is that there are professionals who provide services to individuals and accept a lower reimbursment from the state then they would normally charge.
