Hello Scott/ Tall Freak
Good luck with your journey of self-discovery. I've been self-diagnosed for about 4 months. I remember only too well that feeling of wanting to know & recieve official diagnosis. I was determined to find out for sure. However, time & lots of research has enabled me to find myself & accept who & what I am - Aspie!
I would still be waiting for assessment now, if I persued official diagnosis route & I fail to see the benefits of gaining one now. Ultimately it is me & those closest to me
Did you know you'd have to declare it to the DVLA & insurance will go up?
My advice would be to read as much as you can on aspergers syndrome. Try titles by Tony Attwood & Luke Jackson. Maxine Astons "Aspergers in love" specifically looks at aspergers relationships based on her counselling findings & experience of aspergers.
Best of luck!

I am aware of the declaration and the insurance but that is for the UK. I'm in the US and fortunately, that does NOT apply here. Of course insurance companies are looking for any excuse to raise rates and it could happen in the future.
Thanks for the suggested reading, I'll look them up and that certainly would help with my wife.
Hi tallfreak
I would say from what you say about yourself that there is a posibility that you could have Klinefelters syndrome. Being tall, symtoms similar to Asperger's and low sex drive would all be consistant with Klinefelters syndrome.
You might wan't to check this out yourself and if you think it's a posibility then there is a Karyotype blood test that would confirm it either way.
If you have a low sex drive it migh be worth getting your testosterone levels checked although I know where I am in the UK doctors are generally reluctant to prescribe testosterone unless your testosterone level is very low.

Well, I am a female with LOW sex drive and obessions as well, and I was told that i have asperger's as well.
My hormone levels were checked out before I even got diagnosed and they were fine.
There are a lot of aspies with LOW sex drives as to why that is I am not sure.
Have you always had a low sex drive or did it just happen after marriage?
I would say if getting an official diagnosis helps you understand yourself then by all means do it.
When it comes down to it no one really understands the human sex drive. I don't care how phsycologist think they have it figured out.
The brain is hardwire and I do believe autism can have an effect on a persons sex drive. Yes, I realize that not all aspies have a low sex drive but it is pretty common!
Goodl Luck!
Plus our social difficulties make it harder to meet partners.
I have had my testosterone levels checked but I didn't really care for the doctor I had at that time as I never thought he was thorough enough. I probably should have it checked again just to be sure. I've looked up Klinefelters Syndrome and many of the things do fit, but Aspergers does seem to fit better, plus I have more than average body and facial hair which is non typical for Klinefelters. (but not unheard of.) However the funny thing is that according to my wife, she says I think more female than male whereas she thinks more male than female.
My sex drive was a little higher as a teenager, but not nearly as high as other teenagers. As a teenager, some would masturbate several times a day where I would several times a week.
Last night I went to Barnes & Nobel and picked up: Asperger's Syndrome and Sexuality: from Adolescence to Adulthood, as it was the only one they had in stock that dealt with Aspergers and Sex/Relationships. There are several others that I would rather have and have ordered online.
The book helped explain some things and did say that many Aspies do indeed have low sex drive, but not all. There was really only a good 2 pages that was helpful, but still it was interesting. The book was more about how sex education should work for Aspies more than anything else. My wife looked at the book and started to get a little worried when the book talks about the sexual deviant behaviors that some Aspies have when the subject of interest becomes sex and not computers as an example. Other parts of the book were at least helpful in explaining why it’s hard for me to read someone and it makes a lot of sense. I’m sure there are better books out there.
