I didn't know where to post this, but I wanted to share some suggestions:
*A much more massive passing out of brochures/packets explaining what autism *is* and *isn't* (at events revovling around autism especially)
*Writing to local and national newspapers, magazines, etc. for articles to be published about autism from an autistic's perspective
*Alerting newspapers and magazines to AFF's existance.
*Offering to hold free 'informative' conferences at schools/colleges
*Promoting awareness of famous Aspies/autistics (I have a picture on my binder that has a picture of Albert Einstein and it says "You wouldn't cure him, would you?". I've gotten a lot of inquiries (most are "What the heck?") )

I love it!! you know if you tell themn that when they autopsy his brain and found it was not like a "normal" brain, they oooh and aahh but tell them it was autistic., the reaction is different
Excellent ideas Cat, we are hoping to make some pamphlets shortly which we will put in the library section and people could print them off to hand out.
Some newspapers are already aware of us, and we will hopefully be having some press coverage soon.
Are you in the UK? We are hoping that a member will be able to speak at the NAS Conference next year, your ideas are exactly the way things need to move to make changes in peoples minds about autism.
I'm in Virginia, USA. I have arranged to help with the Virginian Pilot's articles on autism during the autism awareness month. (It helps to have contacts. )
Is that a local newspaper Cat?
Working with them is an great move then. Its next October, awareness month, right?
Thats brilliant, getting a true picture across to the media is so important to make a difference to perceieved images of autism.
We have made a pamphlet and leaflet and they will be in the Library section of the site shortly and can be downloaded and printed off.
There is a logo that can be downloaded and be printed onto t-shirts if desired.
The logo can be used by members for posters, educational material, etc, as long as the content is compatible with AFF aims.

How does harping on about Einstein help (the vast majority of) Aspies who are not Nobel prize-winning scientists?
I think the point is that to an NT its something that they can recognise and focus on, its a starting point to talk about the issues.
Has the AS leaflet idea been forgotten? I would be interested to see what the AFF comes up with. I think it would be any easy way to disseminate the AFF's views.
Well we have done an AFF leaflet that people can print off and use. We handed some out at the Autism Conference recently and had a good response.
We haven't written an AS leaflet yet, we need people to write things for it, and need to decide how to distribute it.

Have you done a write-up of the conference?
Yes, I posted it in NT/AS Interaction.
