Once mercury is in the body it is virtually impossible to get rid of. Just as with lead poisoning the only thing you can reasonably do is learn to live with it.

There is no way you can vaccinate against such a basic element as mercury is. The human body has no defense against such metals, so how in heavens name would one activate a defense that simply is not there.......

I am curious as to whether people first have themselves tested for an unacceptable level of mercury - before being subjected to some cleansing process or other.  On that note, are there data on "unacceptable" levels or how long it remains in the body?  Lest we forget - amalgam fillings.

I think this search for the cause of autism is just plain silly. I don't care what caused it, I only care if the autists who DO need help actually get it, and it actually helps.

I must admit, I was not a believer in mercury/autism but now I am convinced that my son has been mercury poisoned. We had him tested for mercury levels and it was so high that it was off the scales. Now it makes sense to me why he was talking with a few words at one and understood so many things, was so advanced in his development and then one day just stopped. How do you explain that?
Come on, somebody give me a scientific explanation as to why the same 1 year old that can play hide and seek, and wave goodbye to people and copy dance moves off the television, why he would just STOP and totally lose all ability after a vaccine?
I understand the genetic component, yes i do, but I believe some children are more susceptable to developing autsim because of toxins in their environment and of course, poisonous vaccines that have mercury levels equivalent to what a 150 pound person could handle. Can you really be as naive enough as to say that better diagnosis is a result of the increase in Autism in the last 20 years??? My @ss.
You know, I really love my son the way he is, but after I (his stupid mother) took him for a chicken pox vaccination recently (what was I thinking!!!!???) he has now regressed in to such a bad state that he doesn't know where he is, and he hasn't stopped repeating commercials that he saw 2 months ago over and over again. He looks at a point in space and just laughs and no-one can snap him out of it. WTF is going on? I want my son back. He was diagnosed 3 months ago with mild/borderline autism, but if he got diagnosed now he would probably be high moderate.

He was tested by hair sample, blood and urine. I live in Australia, and here we only have 4 doctors that are qualified and willing to test for these things in relation to autism. You ask any other doctor, they will laugh at you. Why? Because pharmecuetical companies will go DOWN :fire: if they ever admit it. They make money from sick people. The samples were sent off to the US for testing. He has had injections from birth. For 18 different things including hepB, rubella, menningococcal, pnuemococcol, measles, mumps, tetanus etc etc.
He had a preliminary diagnosis at 2 years, 9 months. He was assessed as having mild/borderline ASD. Then I took him for the C-pox vax because he started part-time child care and we thought it would be best. Wrong. He got sick from it and bang, started to hallucinate and laugh psychotically. That is why I haven't been on here recently, I feel like dying when I see him like that. His speech almost completely stopped, except for the repitition of sentences. I have no doubt in my mind about what caused it now.

Drifter, I am not going to call you insensitive, but I would like to tell you that I am a psychologist and both my husband and I are very educated people, therefore I know all the drama that this topic has caused. I too was not a believer, now I know for sure. And until somebody can come up with scientific proof as to how it is possible for a child to be born without autism can regress in to it. If they are wired up that way, wouldn't they be wired up that way from birth? And if autsim is such a genetic disorder, how could you have an epidemic of a genetic disorder? In addition, I know of people that have had a child develop normally or typically for the first 2 and a half years and then BANG regress in to autism. How can that be logically explained if you are born autistic?
Please explain and I will give you a gold medal.

Also, comparing my son's condition to the "wart cure" post hoc example doesn't really make me believe that vaccines/autism is a post hoc thing. Nice theory, but I am not stupid. It's not like I stole something and God punished me around the same time by giving my son autism. It doesn't work like that. I have heard that bull. Someone said to me that my friend did it to him from the grave (my friend that committed suicide 2 years ago, who was supposed to be a speech pathologist for children with autism). Now come on!??

DW_a_mom, I won't even say what I think about what you wrote, I am too angry right now. You won't change your mind on this, but neither will I.

PS. Of course it is wrong to just chelate your child without having proper testing done. No parent or doctor should ever do such thing without testing.
Also, the lower rate of autism in the past had more to do with Kanner's autism. Regressive autism is what the epidemic is about.

I understand what you wrote, sorry to sound so upset, I know you didn't say you are right and I am wrong. I just feel that the research is not as solid as you say. It appears solid because those that write the reports are all doctors that are in some way linked to pharmecuetical companies. You have to understand that the answers are not going to magically appear in front of anybody because the governments in your country and my country are trying to cover their butts. Can you imagine what would happen if it is revealed that mercury is the cause? They would literally lose billions of dollars. And why would a major pharmacuetical company in the US make an agreement with the government that if the truth ever came out, they would be legally protected against lawsuits? We are not living in the land of colourful fairies and candy sticks growing off trees, we live in a sick, cruel world that is run by politicians and doctors that make money through sick people.

My whole world is crashing before my eyes, I don't know what to do or how to handle it anymore. Sometimes before I go to sleep, I wish that I don't wake up in the morning. Of course I know that is selfish because I really do want to be around for my son. I just can't cope with the way things are now because I know my son wasn't born this way. So I will fight for him as long as it takes, and if nothing works, at least I will know I did everything in my power to help him.

Of course I love him, I love my son dearly more than anything in the world, it really hurts me to see him being out of this world.

As for child care, he actually loves going, he plays with the other kids and when I take him there he tells me to go home. We call it "school" to simplify it and when I tell him to go in the car because we are going to school, he grabs his bag and runs to the door.

My problem is that he connects so well with me and other people, he gives my friends a hug and a kiss hello, he makes good eye contact etc. but then he just switches out of nowhere, so for the next 10 minutes he has no idea, talks about tv ads that he hasn't seen for months due to us switching the tv off all day, and doesn't know I am even in the room. Then he returns for a while and then he is out again. This happens so often that I took him to an occupational therapist today and asked her about it (as she has worked with hundreds of autistic children) she said she has never seen anyone do that before and she will refer back to me after she speaks to her colleagues.

Remember, my son has no strict routine, no sensory or sensitivity issues, loves to get dirty, dig the garden, make sandcastles, like a typical child his age, is very social, plays imaginatively, likes to play with other kids, can read and draw pictures but is not considered aspie because of speech delay. His only problem is his lack of attention and switching on and off all day long.

I haven't seen any stories claiming a "cure" from chelation.  Most advocates I've read say "it seems to be helping."  The "miracle" stories are usually about a combination of supplements and therapies.

Not that I've read everything.  I can't come close to saying that I have.

The firm believers in metals poisoning - parents, at least - seem to believe in a cummulative effect.  Stuff in the parents, PLUS the stuff in the kids.  They don't seem to believe the damage can be fully reversed, so they aren't LOOKING for a "cure" from the chelation.

I can't even begin to tell you how many parents come onto the parent community boards looking for financial help so they can chelate.  That is one of the saddest problems I see with it:  giving parents the sense that if they DON'T do this, they haven't done everything possible to help their child.

I don't know how it is in other countries, but where I live, my PDD-NOS son gets no paid for services. It is all free. The county and schools do everything and he has really improved. He is so improved I have trouble getting his teachers to believe he has ASD (he does). At least in the US, the people who are benefitting financially seem to be the DAN doctors and those who claim "cures" from desperate parents. The money is steep, and insurance doesn't cover it. I never put my son through any of that, and he's still improved in his function level to an amazing degree. I'm also an AS myself and personally wouldn't put myself through the treatments and am skeptical about claims of 'cures.' And, from what I see of NT's, I wouldn't want to be cured.

Even if I believed the thimerosal was the sole cause of the rise in autism (which I don't) I still wouldn't fault people for using it in vaccines for children. All public health decisions should be, and usually are, made for the common good--which is often in common with the interests of certain individuals in the society. If the price we pay for not having measles, mumps, rubella, and polio is an uptick in autism, fine.
