The reason that these double-blind studies are never long-term has nothing to do with an active wish to conceal long-term "extra-pyramidal" effects. The real reason is far more cold-blooded.
Money.
These studies are expensive to run. A long-term effect would have to start with many more subjects, due to dropout and loss of communication between investigators and subjects.
This is not to say that there ought not be long-term studies. The current drug approval system is decades out of date and slanted entirely to the benefit of pharmaceutical corporations.

The side effect drowsiness can cause big problems with school, and the kid would miss important things in class. Fatigue is also one of the main symptoms of stress. Constipation is also painful and weight gain would interfere with the child's healthy life.
And there is also the high chance that these drugs would backfire as well.
