Languages I know:
English

Languages I'm learning/want to learn/play an important part in my lifeL
Chinese
Polish

I'm currently studying Chinese. Polish I can just learn from my parents, but that will be tough.
In Chinese (mandarin) will be

1 yi 2 er 3 san 4 si 5 wu 6 liu 7 qi 8 ba 9 jiu 10 shi

Languages I know:
English
Chinese
Japanese

I'd known a smattering of Italian and German, from school but not enough to converse intelligently. ^_^

In Mandarin the "4" also coincides with the word "death".

Wikkid! (I assume "Chinese" in this case means Mandarin? -- correct me if I'm wrong)

How to count one to ten?

This one is Japanese (I'm posting this now so we don't end up being too much like "What lang's you know" thread.)

ORDINAL NUMBERS

1. Ichi, 2. Ni, 3. San, 4. Shi / Yon, 5. Go, 6. Roku, 7. Shichi / Nana, 8. Hachi, 9. Ku / Kyuu, 10. Juu.

The alternatives for 4 & 7 is because "Shi" also means "Death" (but with a different symbol) so there were once superstitions associated with using those words.

Also, there is a different set of words for actually counting THINGs.

1. Hitotsu, 2. Futatsu, 3. Mittsu, 4. Yottsu, 5. Itsutsu, 6. Muitsu, 7. Nanotsu, 8. Yattsu, 9. Kokonotsu, 10. Tou.

I know three languages besides english

1) Spanish 4th year
2) American Sign Language 3rd year
3) German 2nd year

If you wanto know some fun phrases in the first 2 I can help

I liebe Schlagsahne.... in German that is I love whipped cream

Princepato de Lucedio- in Italian that is The Prince of Darkness... or Light... I can't remember it's a name of a Monestary off the coast of Italy.... It's labeled one of the scariest places on earth
The Maori word for New Zeeland is "Aotearoa" which means "Island of the long white clouds."

"Bártni miella biekka miella, nuorra jurdda guhkes jurdda."
the text is from an old dajahus (text for a JOIK-song or poem) written down in 1672 after a sámi poet Olof Mattson Sirma.
"(The) Boy's mind (is like the) wind's mind, young thoughts (are) long thoughts."

"Terra nullius" is latin for "land owned by no one".

Ett-Två-Tre-Fyra-Fem-Sex-Sju-Åtta-Nio-Tio. 1 - 10 in Swedish.

The Yiddish slang word for "Being drunk" is "Shikker".
NYAHCHAN--
One of my former professors was named Yoshihashi.
He obviously was not superstitious.
He had a "vanity" license plate on his car with his name spelled in numbers---4484
Just remember something else interesting.

Google "Latin Sayings"   All sorts of interesting things in Latin, from very solemn to totally nonsensical. A very interesting site, for me anyhow.
I speak decent English and Spanish is my native language, so if anyone has doubts about how to spell a word or where to put an accent, I can help you, I'm very good at that. I'm also learning Italian through an audio-course but it's really frustrating not to know how to spell the words, just pronounce them.
I've posted a rough translation of one of my poems on the poetry/creative writing forum. I will post the swedish original tonight.
I know English, American Sign Language (not completely fluent but proficient) and a decent amount of French. I'm interested in learning Welsh and Japanese in particular (delighted to find words from both posted here =] ) but I find almost any language fascinating.

Sign Language I've taught before, although if anyone is really interested I'd have to find somewhere to load videos to.
American Sign Language Video.

Let's see if this works.  Not much of a teaching video but just a preview.  This was an assignment for class.

http://s122.photobucket.com/albums/o277/...-SAV-3.flv

Transcript: I BORN WHERE? ALX [an abreviation/sign name of a city] GROW-UP ALX. ALSO.  i GO-TO CLASS HOW?  WALK.  SOMETIMES IF RAIN I RIDE BUS.   I HAVE BICYCLE PURPLE, BLACK. MY FAVORITE FOOD APPLE.  MY FAVORITE DRINK TEA. YOU KNOW COUNTY THAILAND? KNOW [describe flag w/ blue, red, white stripes] THAT THAILAND.  THEY SPEAK THAI, HAVE FOOD SPICY.  NEAR CHINA AND MALAYSIA.  SAV [self assesment video] NUMBER 3 FINISH.

It's not perfect.  Notable mistakes...syntax could be better, ie. subject first, then comments (country Thailand you know?).  The sign for Thailand is a double motion, not a single motion, and the square shape of the flag should have been drawn symmetrically from the center using both hands.  Alas, this was an early video and the camera shakes my confidence so I forget things.  >.<

If there's enough interest I can make tutorial type videos.  I LOVE ASL and will gladly share whatever you want to know.  However I refuse to teach with voice (I will not say 'red' then show you the sign; instead a red card or marker may be indicated and then the sign shown.  I encourage this visual/immersion learning because it enhances understanding of the culture as well.)

Enjoy.  =]  Let me know if there is trouble with accessing the video and what you think of it.

At uni. It was a prerequisite for doing Honours in Classics, and since I wanted to do my Honours year in Classics, I picked up Latin.

...And then kept learning it because actually it's quite fun. Big Grin

Free online courses and exercises in French (and English, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch).

That is a great site, although you have to know French otherwise you can't do the other exercises... (I couldn't do half of the exercises from Dutch because I didn't know what the French word meant....)

Well, my list of languages:
Dutch (have spoken it all my life)
English (for over six years)
French (four years)
German (just a little bit, I had two years of German)
Latin (also a little bit, also two years, currently not anymore)

I think that's about it.

how about conlangs?
ich weiß zwei Sprachen momentan: Englisch und Deutsch.

for those who don't speak ze German, i said "i know two languages currently: English and German. imo, German is actually quite easy to learn. most of the words in it are "cognates"; basically loanwords which either English took or Germans copied or vice versa. with two years under my belt, i can speak it quite well (except for a little help from a translator ^^)
