can anyone give me some advise on what i can possibly get my daughter to chew on that the school allows and that won't make the rest of the school want to bully and tease her about it?
that is a big coping method for her when she is stressed, I tried the straw thing couldnn't find one she didn't destroy in seconds, any suggestions?
I'm sure you must have thought of this already... why not bubble gum?
or a pen free of ink, one time i chew pen and got ink all in my mouth. It was not pleasant.
Yeah i was gonna say pens.
Pencils? Erasers? (some like, some hate... to chew erasers).
Some schools (or some teachers) prohibit gum. But otherwise gum is a brilliant idea.
Also it occurs to me, like a cleanish rubber or plastic keychain, anything that that would be not metal (bad for teeth and if basemetal it could be unhealthy), not fuzzy (that keeps saliva) or not any sort of plastic that were not foodsafe...
For things you can chew I suggest a drawstring out of a pair of pants or a shoelace (Durable though they do dry out your mouth so some water may be needed), or maybe some toothpicks (Though splinters may be a problem). Or gum.
Little bits of plastic are good to chew. Biros are nice, so were pencils but I could never stand the taste of a rubber plus they were a bit too flimsy.
A good discrete thing to chew is your bottom lip or your tongue. Aslong as you don't chew too hard.
I used to chew on my jumper but got in trouble. Then, I chewed on my fingers and didn't get into trouble. I still do that to this day.
You how when you buy a toy, it is wired to the box with little plastic-coated wires? Those are GREAT to chew on. The only problem is when you chew the plastic off and end up chewing on wire. So you need a decent supply of them or you run out.
In school I used to chew on a plastic ruler.
I the little bits of plastic that attach the price tags to the clothes are brilliant for chewing.
I didn't start this thread, but I do have the same issue with my son, and I love all the great ideas! Thanks to the students who came on to share what they've used - your personal experience is much appreciated!
In soccer I chew on the gateraid rings, you know the rings of plastic they use to seal the top on.
Mmmmmm plastic things to chew...
in fizzy drinks bottles, the lid often has a little plastic insert. Can be tricky to get off but really satisfying to chew.
Pen lids are also good.
Also... um... are you in the UK? Recently there was a big craze for knotting plastic threads together to make keychains and the like, and they were really good to chew because they were hollow, so 'bounced', plus you could get quite a big packet quite cheaply.
Boy chews pencils but i dont like the splintery wood feeling.
When I was a child I chewed... my hair! I had it long and so I always had wet hairtips. When I grew older the dislike of the wet and cold hair overweighted the good feeling of the chewing, so I decided to stop. That was, when I started curling my hair instead of putting it into the mouth
The curling thing was far better accepted than the chewing, but nobody could do anything against it, so they decided to ignore it, as I really did not hurt any school rule by it.
I have an idea that may be useful.
Hemp twine is very
durable and tightens when it gets wet.
It does fray alittle so I would suggest making
several knotted necklaces or bracelets.
My son likes to chew as well and Ive found
that he likes the textures of knotted hemp
items that Ive made.
If you try this make sure you purchase
hemp that hasn't been dyed. You could
use medium sized plastic or rubber beads
in your patterns as well.
I suppose you suggested to the school to stop the students from bullying her, and they acted like helpless children at the thought of it. If a little sadist has a problem everyone runs to help them, if a non-bullying innocent child has a problem, they're burned at the steak.
