I just thought I'd mention this because the well known psychologist said something interesting about sex ratios in AS in this interview. If I recall correctly, he said the sex ratio in adult diagnosis (and perhaps he is only talking about his own practice) is a lot different to the sex ratio in children's diagnosis. Apparently a lot of women are identifying themselves as AS and being diagnosed. This raises the question; if aspie females suddenly become "visible" in adulthood, what was happening to them all the time that they were kids?

They were feeling like misfits and misunderstood (at least this one was).

This one was too.

The same as was happening to their male counterparts. After all, none of us was diagnosed during the 1970s or earlier, right? (I dare guess most of us were not diagnosed until at least the mid 1990s).
I felt exacly the same as energia & Katness did, and I am certianly not a female.

I spent years wondering why I was a misfit and a freak and convinced that something nameless was the matter with me. It's possible that Aspieness in girls is not picked up so readily as they can be involved in "pretend play:" involving fairies, castles and so forth.
As recently as about 3 years ago, I was told that I fitted all the criteria for having Aspergers but couldn't possibly have it as I was female and adult.

that pretty much applies to me too.
I went to a phsychiatrist and told him that I thought it was possibly AS or a phychiatric illness and that I wanted him to tell me what it was.

There is a theory which is not readily expressed in the wider psychiatric community that many teenaged autistic females were busily starving themselves. How true it is, I don't know, but it does bear thinking about.
I did that at one stage but it was because of bullying making me lose my appetite and not the wish to be slender. I think it could be a good line of inquiry to see if girls who are anorexic or bulimic could also have Aspergers. Quite often, psychological treatments don't work for them and the same is true for people with Aspergers. We tend to be very resistant to mental reprogramming.
You make that sound like it is a bad thing.
I think a major step in our victory over the curebies is to teach the world that there is a big difference between a human child and a poorly-trained dog.

I heard once that one of my videos was being used by an Israeli group...
Iron Man, I don't think it is a bad thing that we are "resistant to mental reprogramming". If there were enough people like us, maybe Hitler wouldn't have been able to carry on as he did.

It means we tend to be less gullible than most so that is a good thing.

I also agree that it is important to become as well informed about a condition before getting a diagnosis. In the years before I got a diagnosis, I read articles and became more and more convinced that Aspergers was the best explanation for my social difficulties, obssessive interests and communication issues.
I never said it was. In point of fact, I am convinced more every day that my Aspieness is what would allow me to communicate so freely with people like the Dwarrow.

Can I quote that in my bucket job on Moron And The ***?

I think the worst thing about being autistic is how uninformed the rest of the world is. And the way in which curebies are exploiting the fact.
Who's Dwarrow?.

Yes, feel free to quote it in your movie.

I think the curebie people can be like the mum who told me in all seriousness one day "The only thing that is important is for my daughter to be popular".
Ken, thanks for the confirmation, I was just curious as to whether it is working well or not. One problem we (or at least I) currently have with AutTV is that its impact on the community is very difficult to measure, whereas the curebie propaganda that we get drowned in all the time is always filtering back to us.
