I went on YouTube and saw that same video that was listed on your Autistic Video site as "Video of an autistic boy learning 'why and what' questions" (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iilE9bbTovQ ), and it is created by
philcommander. He also made this video:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FdoDNSoiPPQ which says we weren't ment to be autistic. He doesn't even believe autism exists. He stated that it was just a series of difficulties associated with these four disorders: Leaky Gut syndrome, Central Auditory Processing disorder, Deranged Mineral Transport, and Sensory Integration Diorder.
Unfortunately we cannot check every single video on youtube in order to determine if the author of one that appears good is having a negative attitude in other videos which we haven't viewed.
There are 1000s of videos there so we can only use judgement per video.
I think, plus, if the focus of the video is on the kid, well, AFF don't have anything against the kid.
Also, one can use good information -or in this case footage- from someone who is otherwise an opponent. Assuming it's creative-commons and all that.
He says "I'm sorry if your in a mental wheelchairand want to stay like that" - blah the whole thing just made my gut turn, complete and utter bullshit.
I meant in the learning questions video. I didn't watch the AutTV lately becos ... really I just got sidetracked. But I am assuming he didn't say that in the video chosen for AutTV.
PS (EDIT) Yeah I have seen the horrible video of his. And I agree about it being horrible, although I don't think I stuck it out thru the whole length of it.
But I do think that parents have to work at teaching a kid to use language, provided it's a kind of communication that the kid understands and it works for him as language, of course.
(I mention this "provided that..." because I have read some people who don't find they can actually communicate consistently by speech even if they learn to use it sometimes.)
So I think there is nothing wrong with showing someone doing something useful, even if you disagree with the guy on a lot of really important stuff.
PS2:
I watched the teaching questions video and I noticed some funny "POV" type disagreements between the father and the son.
Sometimes, I think, the kid gives the "wrong" answer becos he's looking at the sentence from a different angle than the father. Other times, seems like he's actually confused or doesn't remember, well, that's what they are working on, I guess.
I don't know a lot about kids but this one seems comfortable using spoken language to communicate.
It's in one of those linked.
He explains how Autism is "caused" by a combination of disgestive tract problems, hearing problems etc. and that nobody is "special" for having a gut problem.
He then goes on to explain he didn't like his son being autistic so he has been giving him a range of meds, chelation, ABA, diet control, behavioural therapies, and a whole load of stuff he made up by himself (he admits), and credits his sons miraculous improvement on those (Not very scientific, a mixture of age and behavioural therapies are probably what did the trick). And explaining if it can be cured, then everyone should be cured because it's not right that people should not be normal.
Finally he goes on addressing the autistic viewers who may have been offended by his viewpoints to say that he didn't want his son to be in a "mental wheelchair", and he's "Sorry if it offends you because you want to stay in your emtional wheelchair and be special and feel everyone should be crippled too", or words to that effect. His viewpoint towards anti-cure groups is very much a case of "Go away and die kthxplz"
Edit:
Just change the angle slightly, imagine if he wasn't talking about Autism, but Homosexuality, or because he was Black (Both "conditions" that can cause problems in cultures that are not accepting of difference).
"If there is a cure it's criminal not to use it"
"I don't want my son to be gay"
"If it is not normal, then it is wrong, and must be fixed"
It'd cause an uproar
Just to clarify, the video is not on Aut TV, I am simply linking to it/embedding it on the Autistic Video site.

Oh I'm sorry, I totally read something that wasn't written.
EEEK. The mind is a terrible thing.
But I won't be needing a wheelchair for my mind just yet... Maybe a kick or an elbow in the direction of accuracy here and there.
I'd like to give all our minds a reward for originality!
What sucks is my brain has been misreading emails at work, too. All week. This is bad because one was from my boss about my professional self-evaluation...
Oh well. If I give it some more sleep, maybe it will start working better again...
