I just joined today
I am a single mother of two amazing little boys!My oldest son is 8 years old and my youngest just turned 6 years old today. My youngest was diagnosed as Autistic at the age of 3. He has taught me so much! Getting to know him and appreciating (and embracing) his unique way of being has redefined me as a person and has changed my outlook on life entirely. I never realised how much expression and creativity I've over looked through out my life, until I had my son

I still learn new things every day!
It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to sharing ideas and stories with you all!
~BK~
Welcome!
Do be aware people on this forum can be quite a bit blunt and challenging at times to us parents, but there is a lot to be learned from that, so don't let it scare you away!
Welcome to the Forum BK
I'm both a parent to two Autistic children and on the Spectrum myself

Oh, thats perfectly fine with me. I've spoken with many people on the spectrum over time and I admire them all
The best way to learn is from the one that walks the path, after all
Nice to meet you!

Hi Noctivagus
Nice to meet you!
Hi!
I hope you find this site as useful as I do.
I don't post very often, but I lurk a lot!
I have four sons (aged 25, 23 & 13-year-old twins), a daughter (22) and 2 grandsons (5 & nearly 5).
One of the twins has a formal diagnosis of Asperger's, but the other boys all show traits (at least). I think they are all wonderful!
My eldest was probably the most classic. Luckily, he found he had a talent for music and is now a concert pianist in Ireland.
My second son has a talent for Martial Arts and has black belts in different disciplines and is the manager of a successful Wing Tsun school in England.
Both are getting married next year.
I never realised that my eldest could have an ASD (of course, Asperger Syndrome was unheard of when they were small) because he was just like me!
My sister recently read up on ASDs (because her husband's nephew has been diagnosed) and told me that she finally understands me and our dad! She was worried about discussing it with me in case I "took it badly" - of course, I had known for years and simply hadn't thought to tell her! Ooops.....
Uh oh! I'm waffling a bit, aren't I?
Just as well I don't often post!

You're not waffling at all! It's lovely to hear about all of your and your children's accomplishments  I think that's awesome!!!
Nice to meet you as well
Welcome
I'm parent of an aspie and a NT son and aspie myself. Did not reply to your other question because what I'd have said was said by others before.
And yes, don't let you be scared away, some of us may bark, but hey, on the internet biting isn't possible

Hi Sibylle
I've only been a member for 4 days and I
feel pretty welcome here so far
Haven't been barked at yet! hah!
Nice to meet you
I usually do a lot of the barking

.
I'm really happy to see some parents posting here who are proud of their Aspie children. This attitude can be quite rare in our society.

Thank you  Im happy to be a member of this forum.
And yes, I am very proud to have an Autie son in my life
But, as I said, it is a refreshing change to see people who are not just having a big whinge about their children and their faults.
I know what you mean and I hate that
anyone would see Autism as a fault too
I personally think it is a natural enhancement
and Im a bit envious of the things my son can do.
I could only dream of that kind of freedom.
It's truly amazing and enlightening
