Sorry if this has already been done, but do you believe the myth that MMR Vaccinations are responsible for the development of autism?
It may worsen some of the symptoms, but I don't believe it's causing autism.
I think mercury from MMR vaccines actually make HFA into LFA. The mercury theory seems so illogical to me...i mean, why would autism be 4 times more likely in boys than in girls if it is simply just a type of "mercury poisoning?" :?  :?:  :?:
Yeah, there are just too many things that don't fit for it to be mercury poisoning.

I think there are some cases where it might cause it, or as the other posters said, it might make it worse, but I don't think it's always a factor. I was personally displaying symptoms well before my MMR.
I think there's something to the theory that mercury can contribute to the development of neurological problems and developmental disorders...but not the amounts found in vaccines or dental fillings.  Numerous studies have revealed that there's no correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism, and the study that initiated the controversy has since been discredited, including many of the original people who performed it recanting.

What concerns me, and what hasn't received the attention that vaccines have (perhaps because it doesn't provide an easy way for parents to feel like they're doing something heroic) is environmental mercury poisoning.  I grew up in one of the most polluted areas of the country, and an unsettling number of my peers have developed disorders that have been connected to mercury.  In my immediate family alone, despite there having been no prior familial history on either side, I have AS, my mother has lupus, and my little sister was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 16.  At least two other girls within a year of my age from the small high school I attended have also been diagnosed with MS.

Of course, these are all very complex disorders, and my anecdotal experience doesn't prove anything, but I would be surprised if pollution that has been known to cause brain damage and abnormalities in fetuses doesn't have a contributing effect in the development of a large number of disorders.  And the number of women with enough mercury in their blood to harm a fetus is, according to the U.S. government, now around 1 in 6.

I know I'd really like to see a study that compares the mercury toxicity level of an area with the trends in cases of autism.
The symptoms of mercury poisoning are not even like autism.
Its complete nonsense.

^Agreed!

At one my son's evals I was given a list of theories (I think all parents are given this list.)  As I read through them I kept wondering why I was given this list? I wanted to know more about Autism, not a list of bogus theories
that, in my opinion, seemed like a list that was intended to give me something to blame for his difference. Nothing is wrong with being different.
I threw the list in the trash can...heh!
I believe he was born this way and is simply meant to be...

My view is this:

It seems to me that for long centuries there were TWO major categories of humans. (These two categories are totally irrespective to nonsensical things such as religion and politics which differ (do they?) from one region to another.

One of the categories is the "developed human" who is bright in Art and inquistive in Science. This human even reached the state of metacognition - thinking about the ability to think - thus philosophical. However this is the same human who feels jealous, envious and unsecure and who is cunning, tricky, mean, devillish, egoist and squalid.

The other category is the primitive African human who is "undeveloped": he goes around nude, uttering syllables of which significance is unstable, and counts from one to three - from four onwards it is "many". However, this human is not tricky at all, not really egoistic and quite straight-forward in both his thought and his actions.

One might wonder why Mother Nature did not create a type of human which possesses the Good-Side of both without having the Bad-Side of none. Well, actually Mom-Nature DID create it : IT IS ASPERGER's !!
Certainly makes sense. Bloodykisses, I think you did exactly the right thing by throwing that list in the rubbish. It would have been a complete load of bunk.
