Magelite I love your avatar. I LOVE THAT SHOW!
YAY for LOST!
I saw it this morning. I thought some bits were cloying and manipulative. I cringed when she said 'neurotypical'; I could imagine the writer trawling through wikipedia's (mostly terrible) autism pages for research.
Good film overall though. Alan Rickman is always great.
I saw it yesterday (german translation) and think it's quite good. I could understand Linda far more than all the NT's
Good luck, the cinema wasn't very full, but that will probably mean the film won't show very long in the cinema.

I saw this movie two days ago. And this movie talks about another picture of autism. Autistics could be independent, but need some help once in a while, like taking out the garbage.
But i really love each conversation with the SUPER ANNOYING chit-chatty neighbour. This NT woman said in front of Linda (the autistic mother) that she was sorry that she 'lost' her daughter. Linda replied: "i did not loose her, she is dead"
It's quite a shock to hear this 'uncommon' reply of Linda, but the neighbour knows why she says this, because she is autistic. The neighbour says: "i know all about autism, i have seen that film."
She was probably refering to Rainman..........
And btw, is it a fact that when you lost your daughter or anyone dearly, you HAVE TO BE hugged or comforted? It's a nightmare when you tell someone to go away and they keep coming back :S..... so scary
I'll be seeing it (finally) 2 january nxt year aka 2007!
I am very curious what it'll be like, but from what I could see on AutTV it must be a rrreally good movie!
I will go to the film with a group of aspies/auties (we're 4 so far but more can join) and I just posted info on the event in the local groups >
dutch aspie groups section on this forum, anyone from the Netherlands is very welcome to join our group!
Saw it with my AS group, loved it. Want to get the DVD asap!
(also, we had to go to a really obscure, hidden away arty cinema to see it)

Very enjoyable movie, great acting, but the plot is rather contrived and "forced together" and is the biggest stumbling block. The plot needs a strong "suspension of disbelief" - read it as a sort of modern mythic story and you'll be fine.
** spoiler ** I saw a trailer (or maybe an Autie TV clip) that had a scene where Rickman is in a cafe with Weaver and tells people nearby that she's his wife. That was not in the final movie. Was that scene meant as a post-credits "plot twister" scene? It would certainly have fitted in, right at the end.
