I am thinking the idea of starting a charity to start autfininty is not going to work. You guys already ran into difficulties due to the bizzare charity rules over there that require you to have a office. I think that they may not accept starting autfinity as a charitable cause. I fear that they may see autfinity as a business(Non-profit) not as a community especially given the the holiday resort aspect of autfinity.

I think that there may be another way to "weasel" Autfinity past the Bureaucracy.  What if we viewed it as a business. I don't know about the UK, but here in Canada they're are incentives and assistance for people that want to start their own businesses.

My idea is that Autfinity should be setup as a customer owned cooperative.  This is the most democratic business model, and is more of a community structure than a business. Also in Canadian law a cooprative is allow to loan money from it's members as a way to help start up the business(of course that money would have to pay back eventually).  A cooprative can also accept donations.

Of course, someone is going to check UK law to see if any of this is aplicable in the UK.
We would not be allowed to set up any kind of business at the moment as Gareth is a student.

It may be possible to do it in the future, or if people in various areas set up groups for it. :?:
Have you had a lawyer look at this? They have creative ways to present the application for Canadian Federal approval.  My experience in Quebec was that there was publicly a good deal of mis information re non-profit and Foundations in Canada - most of what the public thought wasn't true.  I don't speak French and most of the Autism groups here are French only - however depending on where you are in Ontario there may be lawyers around some of the groups who could give free advise.

In the states the way to go with it would be for the charity to be offering quality of life enjoyment and/or lifestyle for an identified "need" group.  Much as Paul Newman's charity does with Hole In The Wall for children with the challenge of cancer.  There is another group that has housing and whole villages for children who are "at risk" and/or up for adoption.

I don't understand why that is a problem.  Are students not allowed to run their own businesses over there. Or is it just because your and his workload is too high?

It's too complex to explain.

Welcome to the Welfare State.  If you want Governanny to take care of you, you have live how Governanny dictates.

Security and liberty are opposing policies.  Any extreme of one harms the other.

Irregardless you would not be able to start a coop by yourself anyways it requires probably 10 or more people.

if you get enough people to the movement, just ask everyone to sign a form and pay about $5-$10 a month (or equivalent of, depending on what country your in) which is very cheep. Spread word around your local autism groups, get more people in on it. Post flyers on other autism boards. Get the word out, build upon our legions of aspies, and have everyone donate a small monthly fee.
Set up a business treasury, designate treasurers, and people who can translate and convert international currencies... We'll need a lawyers signature in cooperation with our treasury dept. to track and safeguard our earnings.
guys that idea of the cooperative is very good... You can have a "head office" based in Canada under your laws and set it up as an agregate of people representing a cooperative it will never be an individual thus your personal status of employment or whatever wouldnt be an issue...

and...the bussiness itself could start as a holliday resort for Aspies only! short to long to undefined periods holiday... that way you can do most work over Pcs and internet (flights bookgs etc) and get a return to pay back the loans... a bank needs a guarantee of cash flow to finance a property development so you need a project first... and the first season of the resort could be aspies and families so you could include kids and make sure you'll have media coverage and complete bookings!
By going throu the holi resort idea you'll already have the basic infratructures to actually provide homes for the ones th are sure to move for ever there and the ones going on try outs and maybe moving there later on...
you can have workshops on your derent interest (paid ones!) you can have so manysources of income in this type of bussiness that may after some years you can change it to a ...nation?

do a study on how many people would actually book holidays there
tif the study proves sustainable and positive then you can convince banks to grant you investment loans because it will allow you to pay it back!
Also banks finance investments with mortgages so you'd have the properties as a guarantee too...

I work in a bank so I can get some more info later on... or the project itself...

anyway sorry for intruding here... I'm an NT therefore this is not an aspergian idea.
We should set up a cooperative. How are we gonna go about setting up this cooperative?
We'll also need a business partner to sponsor us.
Could the "head office" be at somebody's home? Just an idea.
