Hello All, ici Ilja,
Today I received my second invitation for the now yearly Awares Conference. It starts next month, but You can register & access it now already, it's free. I think it's a good place to profile our ideas.
You can find a copy of the invitation on my website with the url's to the conference & some info:
Awares is to hold its second online autism conference between October 4-11, 2006
See You all out there! Don't be shy, some anti-cure overkill won't hurt over there.
Ilja.

I have a question, what do you put in the position box when you register..if you're just like, a normal Joe.
Good question, I experienced the same trouble last year myself. Just select the most apropiete & best fitting description for Yourself.
Tip: If You registered last year & remember your email & password You still can use it to login this year.

I've just had a squiz at the list of papers for this year's conference, and so far it looks really interesting!
I've noticed a few papers that appear to be about positive aspects of autism/AS:
"Enhanced Perceptual Functioning in autism"
"Mathematical talent is linked to autism"
"Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and Creativity"
"Evolutionary advantages of Asperger's syndrome"
and also the autism experts who's ideas I find most interesting will be "there", such as:
Professors Baron-Cohen and Fitzgerald, Dr Darold Treffert (savant expert), aspie photographer Larry Arnold, Dr Manuel Casanova (has written in this forum I believe) and Prof Laurent Mottron (who has Canadian autistic activist Michelle Dawson as a co-author of paper).
October 4th seems to be the date when the full text of the papers will be released, but abstracts can be read now.
Hello All, ici Ilja,
I received an update again on the Awares Conference 2006, I clip it in:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Ilja Ruben Witsel
I am very excited to announce that Stephen Wiltshire, the world's most famous autistic savant artist, will be online next week, on October 4, 6 and 11, 2006, at our second Awares international online autism conference to answer your questions. Stephen can look at a target once and then draw a very accurate and very detailed picture of it from memory. He once drew the whole of central London after a helicopter trip above it. Since 2004, he has drawn Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Rome and Frankfurt on giant panoramic canvasses entirely from memory. The writer and psychologist, Oliver Sacks, devoted an essay to Stephen in his book, An Anthropologist On Mars.
Stephen joins more than 60 of the world's leading autism experts taking part in the Awares online conference from October 4-11, 2006. Entry to the conference is totally free and open to everyone. You can register right now at
http://www.autism2006.org where you will find the abstracts of almost all the experts' papers and you can exchange views with other delegates. I will be opening the full papers up for viewing early next week and the experts will be online from October 4 to answer your questions.
Best wishes,
Adam Feinstein

Thank you, Ilja, for posting about this conference.
I forwarded the conference's information to the Israeli Autistic Spectrum People forum, and some of its members now joined the conference.
Hello All, ici Ilja,
First: Great Ken G., thank You! How more the better... I also found some other AFF members on Awares & I'm just 2 days started, glad to have You there.
Just to let anyone know: The vaccin\mercury rumour is still persistant in the discussions. Here is another update from Adam:

Dear Ilja Ruben Witsel
http://www.autism2006.org
I am extending our Awares international online autism conference until Friday October 20, 2006, due to tremendous popular demand. We cannot, of course, count on every one of the experts being able to stay on, but I hope to persuade as many of them as possible to continue to participate in the conference and to respond to your questions and comments.
Please let your friends know that they can log on for free at
http://www.autism2006.org until October 20.
Best wishes,
Adam Feinstein

Dear Ilja Ruben Witsel
http://www.autism2006.org
Due to the overwhelming number of requests that have come in to me, I have decided to extend the Awares international online autism conference for a second time, until October 27, 2006.
Once again, I will do my very best to persuade as many as possible of the more than 60 world autism experts taking part in the conference to stay on to respond to your questions, but I cannot guarantee that all of them will be able to do so.
Please tell your friends that they can log on to the conference for free at
http://www.autism2006.org until October 27.
Best wishes,
Adam Feinstein

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I even forgot to register last year so will have to do it all from the start this time.
