I did the opposite. I technically stared at the person in the eye sometimes., when meeting people. But on other times I kept my head looking downwards, and speak to people that way. It irritated my friend alot and he used to complain,
"Now can you look at me when you speak?"
"Now can you look at me when you speak?"
