May I also add the diagnostic criteria for children, this what the psychiatrist used for my child:

I think that would be helpful for a psychiatrist, but not for a parent to read and try and diagnose, because first a person has to know exactly what is classed as age appropriate.

We often get parents on chatautism who are upset because their child seems to be different in minor ways, and they get very alarmed about the possibility of autism. They literally try and diagnose babies from such lists, which is absurd.

I do not want to do anything to encourage people to do that. Self diagnosis can be useful for some adults, but certainly not for parents with their children.
I also have an issue with that they only list, low forms of intelligence in the intelligence scale. Like people with Autism just cannot possibly be smart, or even smarter than their peers their age.
"Severely abnormal."  Is there any more bigoted and judgemental use of the word "abnormal" possible?  Can we please break the link here, the language is offensive and the whole thing presents a dim and judgemental picture.  It actually looks like something out of the eighties.  It would be a sad thing if we bumped its google rating.

1 Intelligence is normal and reasonably consistent across various areas - The child is as intelligent as typical children of the same age and does not have any unusual intellectual skills or problems.

No unusual skills.  How comforting that must be.

CARS has a lot of problems.  The professionals who specialize in Aspergers with whom I have spoken consider it to simply not be worthwhile to use for Aspergers.  Likewise, It's just not reliable.  My eldest son was given scores of 19 and 29 on CARS administered on the same period.  The difference?  Two different people did it (both part of the school corporation).  I've been told that there is no way that it should vary that much for one person at one time.  CARS scores can be deeply influenced by how comfortable a child is with an observer.  CARS is useful for determining only one type of autism spectrum, and even then, it falls down.  Judgments of "abnormal" and "appropriate" require levels of expertise that are beyond most people.

In my own area of research, CARS is considered to be a blunt instrument, at best, not appropriate for really teasing out useful information.
ConLang, my child scored a 3 for that question which was the highest he scored for anything. Does that mean that his extra intellectual capabilities such as reading, drawing and making advanced puzzles from very very early on are considered as disailities rather than abilities? I am puzzled.
