I've been mulling over the sad news about Pluto.  I really hate change and now, instead of the usual 9 planets, there are only 8.  After well over a half century, Pluto (the planet I have decided to dub “the autistic planet”) will be ousted from the group of planets, simply because it is different from the others.

Pluto has always kept a well defined distance from all of the other planets and now it seems understandable, at least to me.   Planet earth, after finally taking a good hard look at Pluto, has decided that Pluto is just too different from the others to be considered part of the group.  Planet earth has even taken away this unique planet's right to be called a planet.

Pluto has an “eccentric orbit” and does not follow the same orbital path that the other planets have evidently no trouble following.

Pluto has a moon/satellite named, Charon – that seems to have an almost equal mass  (no hierarchy/pecking order between Charon and Pluto, “I’m the planet and you’re just a lowly moon” has never been uttered by Pluto).

As to what will become of Pluto, no one really knows for sure, only time will tell.  I know in my heart though, that Pluto will do just fine.  I am also sure of this one fact – You can bet Uranus, Pluto ain’t gonna sit around and fret about being snubbed for being different!

Hee!  Love it!  Ah well, at least Pluto has it's twin, Charon, keeping it company in it's eccentric orbit.  I'm sure it will not care that it's been demoted to a "dwarf planet".  It's known all along that it and Charon are a rare example of paired planetissimals.  (Try saying THAT three times around a mouthful of tea...)

Pluto's not the first planet to be demoted either. Ceres was first of all a planet, then became an asteroid because it was deemed too small to be a proper planet, and now it's been decided it's too big for an asteroid so it's become a minor planet... think how confused it must be!

Although [pedantry]the reason Pluto got kicked out was in fact for not keeping a distance - he fails to "dominate his orbit", instead sharing with many other Kuiper belt objects of similar size.[/pedantry] So maybe Pluto's been kicked out for being too sociable...
I know I know I know. That SUX about Pluto not being a planet any more. But you know what, who says that it isn't? In the popular imagination at least, it still is, eh? And that's all that matters, really.

BEAT THAT, SCIENTIST TYPES!!!!
Well, I shall still consider it a planet, SO THERE!

Peace
Its weird for me that it isnt a planet anymore *only* because Im a huge fan of the anime Sailor Moon & now when ever I watch it Im like, so if Pluto isnt considered a planet anymore that totally disrupts the name of "Sailor Pluto" is she not ment to exist in the Anime now or something. I almost feel bad for her, in the Anime/Manga she is almost always alone (though not by choice) & now she dont even have the right to be called a planet :'(. I know it was made in 1992 when Pluto was still considered a planet but ya.
I pity the astrologers. Tongue
I never considered Pluto to be a true planet, and I applaud the astronomers involved for finally assigning it to the correct category (Kuiper Belt Object). If Pluto was a planet, then there would have to be at least 1500+ other planets, because that's about how many Kuiper Belt Objects there are that match or exceed the size of Pluto. But then again, I'm a big science geek and I don't feel any emotional connection to extraterrestrial objects.
But not many Kuyper belt objects have their own satellite. (I refer here to Charon)
Actually, most of them probably do. Among the well-known ones discovered within the past few years, 2003 EL61 and Eris undoubtedly have satellites.

Actually I think that her name would become "Sailor Neptune". Wink
