Firefoxy, I was also a very early reader, and I can't process speech as quickly as most people because I have to translate all spoken words into a written representation in my thoughts.
Hi everyone, please bear with me as I am trying to learn how to use quotes etc. in this forum.
Thanks Bonnie Ventura for that piece of information, it all makes better sense to me now. Initially I made my son PowerPoint slides to help him learn language such as things around the house, foods, actions etc. He actually picked up the written words before the pictures, but now he knows what everything is if I point to it. This was before any knowledge of ASD, and I guess it is a mother's intuition that this was the way my son will learn best.
I totally understand what you have told me, therefore I will continue to use this method of learning with him. His pediatrician said that if he did not learn to read one more word in the next 2 years, he will still be so far ahead of his peers in that department. I guess his language can only improve in time.
I also want to thank all the people here that have made me feel so welcome, this is a learning curve for me and I am glad to have you all by my side to help me make life as comfortable as possible for my boy.
Hugs xxxxx
