I recently noticed a short article about hyperacusis, a condition that can be associated with autism (but is it different from "sensory integration" issues, and is it different from tinnitus?), in New Scientist magazine July 15 2006 on page 52. It is only a small article, but it's a useful summary of what is and what isn't known about hyperacusis, and it describes a treatment used.
Is hyperacusis where you are hyper sensitive to noise or some kinds of noise?
Yes. But if you read about it it seems that there's some confusion about the difference between hyperacusis and tinnitus, and between hyperacusis and autistic sensory hypersensitivity. It can also be confused with a medical condition resulting from bone fracture in the head that alters the sense of hearing.
