Daniel Tammet was interviewed on the radio show "Life Matters" on ABC Radio National 810am, and was broadcast today.

I only heard the last bit of the interview, but I thought Mr Tammet gave a good interview. I thought he sounded remarkably ordinary and articulate for a person who's mind is different from the "norm". I think he had a slight English working-class accent.

I think it's a good thing that radio listeners got to hear an autistic savant synaesthete who sounds pretty ordinary when speaking, because I know that many people, even those who should know better, have the idea that all autistics (especially savant autistics) are obviously different and are freaks or obviously impaired in communication ability. Daniel Tammet was only diagnosed a couple of years ago, so obviously even very intellectually different autistics can live in the community undiagnosed to adulthood.

The show can be listened to over the internet.

Thanks very much, Lili. I am an avid Daniel Tammet fan and I would never know about this interview had I not read your post.

(while I was in the UK last week, I entered the Waterstone's bookshop in Oxford Street in London, went to its basement floor, sat on a couch and read Daniel's autobigraphy "Born on a Blue Day" from start to finish   )

I bet bookshop owners love you! I guess there wasn't much point buying the book, then? I must admit I love to read books in bookshops and magazines in newsagents. It saves money.

It was the first time I ever did such a thing. I'm sure an empire like Waterstone's can tolerate such behaviours

I try to never buy books myself, but it is a good book and I recommend it to all members of the autistic community.
