Out of interest, as my son has had numerous meds suggested, and has tried some.
Also did anything help?
When I went to school, our GP proposed to my mother to give me coffee for breakfast. (I didn't have a diagnosis at that time but was very fidgety). I heard from others my age (I'm 50), that they were given coffee too and it definitly makes a difference. And tastes much better than pills btw.
Yes, I have heard that caffeine makes an ADHD child calmer, whereas for most kids it would make them hyper.
Dose anyone know if there is a conection between autism and cafieen. I can drink a gallon of iced tea, a cup or five of hot tea, posibly some cocoa or a cup of chai, and NEVER be affected. I'm not hyper or wired. Has anyone experianced a similar affect on cafieen.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
i tried doing that once and it was disasterous, maybe i didnt do it right and i'll try it again.
Well my body got less fidgety but my mind was going warp speed. So i guess that was kinda terrible.
I have a mate with ADHD who claims that he cannot get drunk. Poor bloke.
He can't shutdown parts of his brain and so make himself act dumb?
Lucky guy
LOL @ Gareth, nice response.
I'm on Ritalin-SR for ADHD. Ugh. Caffeine actually does calm me down.
I was diagnosed with ADHD (later to be cancelled because of misdiagnosis, which later turned out to be an Asperger's thing) and had to take Strattera [ADHD]and Risperdal [Schizophrenia]. Neither one of them were good at all, and made my Tics (yes, I am also diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome) worse and my mom said I was like a zombie.
My son (14) has been on concerta, ritalin and straterra. he did ok on the straterra. Everything else was a bust. I don't know how old your son is, so it maybe different. He does well on caffeine, as long as there is no sugar involved. he loves coffee, so I buy sweet and low and sweet creamers to go in it. No sugar. But he loves sweet tea. Here in the south of America, (Georgia) it is very common. But I try not to let him have any before bed, or if we are going out somewhere.

Caffine has no effect on me. My mom won't believe me if I tell her I have ADHD. She thinks that I'm just not as sluggish as my brother. So I don't take any medicine, but I probably should. I can't sit through any movie longer than 3 hours, nor stay put in my desk without figeting. If i'm not up front in a classroom, I can easily miss important instructions.

I have inattentive ADD I have tried wellbutrin will not alot of luck. I
tried reboxetine in high dose 20 mg and it seemed to work but had way
too many side effects.
For hyperactivity there are non-stimulant non-anti-depressant meds
like http://www.whatmeds.com/meds/clonidine.html or less
side effect but not approved for kids under 12 yet

I took ritalin for 4 years it was only until last year my mother took me off it.
