it says on the dsm-iv criteria that you cant have adhd if you qualify for a pdd, so does that mean it's not a pdd or is that information outdated?
I think the reason why officially aren't supposed to be diagnosed with ADD if you have a PDD diagnosis is the same reason why you aren't supposed to be diagnosed with a learning disability if you have a mental retardation diagnosis: it's assumed that the symptoms of the former can be "explained" by the latter. So you can only be said to have the former if you can rule out the latter as an alternative "explanation." It's just a formality, though, and doesn't mean that some autists can't have more trouble with executive function than others (and therefore be "ADD") or that some mentally retarted people can't have considerably more trouble in some subjects than others (and therefore be "learning disabled"). Also, it seems that double diagnoses of AS and AD/HD (in the inclusive sense of both "types") are quite common despite the official position.

Well, I have a friend here who has a dual diagnosis of ADHD and Asperger's so I can see it is entirely possible. He shows clear traits of both conditions.
