I trained to be a secondary School teacher (quit after 2 months - couldn't cope). It was a grammar school of about 800 kids. There was about 10 dyslexic and 1 Asperger's. There was one other I suspected might be Asperger's.

The diagnosed kid was amazing. He was at the same time a hilariously funny little genius and a complete nightmare to teach. He was also very popular, it that the other kids found him fascinating, but he liked to be on his own and read books.
My school has about 25,000 students (it's a large university), so I am sure that there are at least a few people that have AS. I haven't met anyone who stands out as a candidate for it, though.

In my primary and secondary schools, I couldn't recall anyone who seemed to have it either.

I guess that many students must be rare in the UK. Here in the US, though, there are lots of schools with even more students than that (up to 40,000 I think).

Actuallly, I just looked up Cambridge University, and they have about  the same amount of students as my school (University of California, Davis). So I guess you guys in the UK have pretty big schools as well.

In my Independent Middle School (Grades 6th, 7th and 8th) in America there are 40-50 students. There is 1 person (myself) on the Autistic Spectrum, 3 (including myself) with Tourrette's Syndrome, at least 2 with ADD and none (that I know of) with Dyslexia or other mental conditions.

As Aspergers wasn't known of when I was in school, I have no idea how many students had it. There were a few "nerdy" kids, but I wouldn't say they necessarily had Aspergers or similar conditions.
Hm- around 30, I presume, have autistic spectrum disorders but there may be more that I am unaware about.
Now, in my college (attached to a school, so aged 11-18) of 400, I am the only one with an ASD. But that could be down to selective entrance for people enterring 11-16, with interviews that mean a very low number of people with any kind of "differences" being given a place. (I was accepted due to the lack of information from my other school (they would not have been good comments) and for my acedemic/musical skills I would contribute.)
Before, in my secondary school, of 950 people, there were about 10 of us with diagnosed ASD, most of whom were Asperger's or HFA.
How would someone know?
In the town I live in in SC of about 30,000 I know of only five Aspies, all male except my daughter and one is in his fifties but a very successful gov't official. The fifth is only suspected and very young, so I'll get back to you!

I am very involved in special education here so I would hear if there were any more.
I'm the only Aspie girl in my school and on average we have about 7 boys who are Aspies, plus about one or two low functioning autistics PDD-NOS or Kanner's. So in a high school of about 1,750-1,900 students we are an extremely small sect. I believe there are probally a lot more students who may be closet ones though.
My son tells me there is one other pupil in the High school who he thinks has AS, approx 500 pupils attend.
i dunno how much Aspies i have in my school cause it's kind of hard to tell for me.. =\
I'm the only one formally diagnosed, I think. However, there are 3 or 4 that I suspect could have Asperger's or High-Functioning Autism.
