That's an interesting article. I manifest most of these traits- posterior rotation of the ears with very minor "flopping", a head sized at the large side of normal, mouth corners slightly lower than the centre, and of course we're all far better looking than average! I've also always had very loose joints and suffered a nasty dislocated patella in my early teens, which has made me more cautious ever since.
The mention of disturbed sleeping patterns was interesting. I've only just started researching A.S. because I was resistant to having myself described in terms of a sydrome or disorder, but it seems I might find some answers here as to why I am the way I am. Does anyone have any interesting sources of information they'd be kind enought to recommend to a neophyte? The only thing I've read so far was the D.S.M. section.
this reminds me of nazi germany. one way the nazi's dehumanized the jewish population was by compare and contrast of bodily features, thus claiming the jews to be a differnt variation of the homo-sapian differnt from their own. thus a hatred could be planted towards brain wash.
although I have lower set mouth corners and a larger head, I noticed that not all the people on the picture project had the same features. (exception of the larger head). I would be very weary of actually promoting or participating in this project.
I do not know the intentions of this study but I can tell you it sounds fishy. I dont like it.

that was my initial feeling as well, but many "conditions" are genuinely associated with unusual and specific features. it can be helpful when a diagnosis is wanted.
I've strange ears too, though mine are pointy rather than square, apparently I look like an elf or something.
me too, i was called a pixie for my small size as a child of 7 years of age. say so on a Shivers evaultion.(sp.)
So tell me folks, do I look
Autistic enough for ya?

I don't look like that. I'm (appearantly, according to others; I disagree) "beautiful", so I can't say I look average, but I don't look like that either.
However, I would say AS/Autism does have a "look", but it something about the way the person holds themselves, something I can't really describe properly, not an aspect of physical appearance.
i know you mean, its just not possible to pin down exactly what it is though...
as for that description,i cannot unbiasedly say anything.although i think my ears are more circular then square..
well, even now i get people asking how many years of school i have left.and i have been denied access to films due to my apparel...
maybe because you no longer feel you 'must' behave in a certain way.?that is to say,you no longer suppress it so.
My ears are normal...
I have EDS and AS...I look much younger than my age...I'm of short stature...and am VERY pale (my geneticist thought I had Albinism) I also have abnormal eye movement due to nystagmus and strabismus. I don't smile much unless i have something to smile about
Oh and EVERYTHING is tiny...I wear kids' clothes and shoes...and wear baby bracelets...even my teeth are itty bitty.
I'm also VERY pale. And very thin.
I also have quite elven ears.
This is all hugely funny. How many people across the world just got up to check thier ears out in the mirror? lol
Damn, I hate being dyslexic.
I was thinking "Elven ears?? If I had elven ears, I would have nine of them surgically removed."
My ring finger is (4th?) is bigger than my 2nd finger, but smaller than my 3rd (middle). Does this mean I'm gay as well as an aspie?

Following that logic, I must be the biggest dyke on the planet, hahaha... The length of my ring finger compared to my index finger is longer than that of most males I've seen. I am hetero-asexual, though.

Sexual orientation aside, however, I do tend to think and behave in a more masculine way than the majority of women I know. Hell, I'm more manly than a lot of the men I know.
Every autistic person I know wears glasses. (Well, I only know 3 autistic people, including myself, and only one has a diagnosis.)
I wish I knew braille, though, as reading would be a lot smoother, at least when it comes to novels and textbooks. I would try out books on tape, but I have difficulty with auditory processing.
Doesn't your library have large text books for the visially impaired? Mine does, though admittedly the selection is smaller.
If online reading doesn't bother you, another suggestion is to adjust your computer to enlarge text or use software for that (if you don't already). There are over 25,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Catalog. And the World eBook Fair from July 4 - August 4 2008 offers over a million free eBooks for download

I also need glasses, though that's not to do with being autistic. If I didn't have glasses, I would need to have books on tape or braille or something to read, and the only way I can tell that someone is a person rather than an object when not wearing glasses is if they move or make noise. My vision used to be better when I was a kid, though I was still near-sighted but I got glasses by age 5 or 6.
I've consistently had more and more trouble seeing since then, though I haven't got an eye disease or anything (shudders to think about all those times my pupils have been dilated - last year I had to go straight from having dilated pupils to seeing a musical, with pre-existing headache).
While my vision has been getting worse in the last few years, and I need a magnifying glass to read books in addition to the strongest glasses they can get me, the rate at which my eyesight is decreasing has significantly slowed in the last few years, which makes sense since I'm no longer a little kid but an adolescent, and eyesight usually steadies around this time, more or less. It's quite fun to take my glasses off in the car and look at the streetlights - if I lower my eyelids partially, then I can see my eyelashes blocking out a portion of each streetlight orb. There's an intriguing fractal-like pattern that appears as well (presumably the veins and whatnot that are in my eye - am not very knowledgeable about eye physiology, though).
I wish I knew braille, though, as reading would be a lot smoother, at least when it comes to novels and textbooks. I would try out books on tape, but I have difficulty with auditory processing. But, reading should come a lot easier when we get this book stand we saw at Borders, and if I sit that on a desk, then reading should get to be less of a strain - also I'll have more desk space when I move into my dorm - currently I share this desk where my laptop sits with my parents.
And I thought *I* was near-sighted...
