i like doctor who. i consider myself a whovian. the public television station that has cycled through the doctors -from william hartnell to sylvester mccoy (many times over)- dropped the time lord a couple of years ago, though it seems like longer.  just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the new doctors are being shown in the u.s. anywhere yet? tom baker forever!
Actually, I don't mind any of the Doctors, even the new ones. When I was a kid Doctor Who scared me. (Because they were playing the episode with the Chinese guy in Vic. London who hypnotises people - remember that one? It's the one with the puppet.) but I grew up since then and now it's kind of cool. Best character is K9.
For futrue information

1 William Hartnell
2 Patrick Troughton
3 Jon Pertwee
4 Tom baker
5 Peter Davison
6 Colin Baker
7 Slyvester McCoy
8 Paul McGann
9 Christopher Eccleston
10 David Tennant

The valeyard (a split of from the doc's mainstream personality that should have arisen from his 12th regeneratrion but came out and tried to take over from the 6th doctor) was played by Michael Jayston

Also: Richard Hurndale palyed the first doctor in 'The Five doctors.
I think this shoudl let people know I like the series...
Very comprehensive, Amadeus lupin, but you forgot Peter Cushing who played the Doctor in the two feature movies
I was only going with the tv series canon but hey.. let's get the lot!

Richard E Grant In the animated series.

But I am NOT coutning comic relief
The latest series has had a really good two part episode to end with. I won't tell you the premise but I strongly advise watching it
I udes to love Davison growing up. And of course T. Baker was the Doctor.

But I have to admit Eccleston and tennant stole my heart. I'm waffling between which I love better. The Empty child and the doctor dances was FANTASTIC!. The girl in the fireplace was good, too. Boy did Rose get taken down a peg there!
The episode with that group of Doctor Who obsessives started off quite well too, although it did get a little weird towards the end.

(And what's with that guy keeping his girlfriend as a block of stone??) :veuze:
Ok, Torchwood is go. For thsoe who don't know, it's a BBC 3 spin off featuring Captain Jack Harkness and a bunch of investigators probieng weird happenings. The show has been likened to Doctro Who meets X-Files

Caution: It is a more adult themed programme than its parent show which is why it airs so late. I don't know if or when it will be available abroad
I'm so fabulously fond of Doctor Who it's quite nearly embarrassing; but being rather young as I am, I've only really lived through two Doctors. Eccleston was fantastic but Tennant is right utterly brilliant.
The Doctor Who theme rocks too.
Loved 9/Christopher Eccleston, but have never warmed to 10/David Tennant. Tennant always seems like a little boy, dressed in his daddy's clothes, trying to act big enough to be The Doctor.

And I will miss Rose terribly.
Never really warmed to Rose, myself.

The best Doctor Who character just has to be K-9. Loved it when he made a reappearance in a recent episode, and so happy that he wasn't really dead.

(You know how you can face a spinning fan and it makes your voice sound funny. I used to do that, and say "Exterminate. Exterminate" and it sounded just like a Dalek.)

Pepper shakers with ray guns.
"Love and Monsters" felt like about 3/4 of a story to me.  Strong opening, good character development, fair story development through to the crisis, and then something went horribly, horribly wrong:  a silly monster, a rubbish climax, and a profoundly creepy (and kind of vulgar) epilogue.

I figured they just phoned one in to make good on the "Blue Peter" deal (but I certainly don't blame the kid who won the competition -- he seemed most disappointed of all).

I agree.
