Bad day at work, I overheard two members of staff talking about me. They were complaining that another member of staff had to deal with the child I was supposed to be caring for therefore leaving his. But we were ALL on a minibus and I was driving it! Not sure what they wanted me to do as it wouldn't have been safe to have child infront with me. Arghhh!
They sound like idiots if they think you can be in two places at once, doing two jobs at once.
I would've told them your job is to drive, not to babysit.
"I overheard two members of staff talking about me" They did not say this to you. I usually find that people who talk about others "behind their backs" have a habit of doing this about everyone else and to anyone who will listen. It is an very ineffective method of dealing with conflict.
You could ask the person if they were upset about having to "care for X" while you had to pay full attention to the road while driving. You might also talk to the supervisor about some policy about supervision of the children while in transit. Some daycares/schools have another adult on board to supervise while one drives. If that is not your policy then what behaviours would cause you to have to stop the bus and deal with them safely. The safety of the children should be your primary concern.
Many NT's engrage is a practice sometimes known as "recreational btching". It means just complaining for the sake of having something to say It sounds like what might be going on here with your co-workers, in light of the fact there was not a thing you could have done to change the situation. Any reaction would likely be seen as "over- reaction" or over sensitivity by the NT's. I have found this out through unpleasant experiences of my own.
If these people had so much time free to whinge then they had plenty of time to watch the child themselves.
