America’s premium gay television network, has announced that it will run ads nationally from Autism Speaks’ new public service announcement campaign to raise awareness about the growing prevalence of autism and the need for parents to be better aware of the early warning signs of the disorder, which now affects one in every 166 children.

“Our network has several staff members directly impacted by autism. We understand the importance of supporting Autism Speaks so they can continue their important work in funding research to find a cure for this devastating disorder,” said Maria Dwyer, Senior Vice President, Distribution Sales and Marketing for here! and the mother of a 7 year-old son with autism. “here! is dedicated to supporting important pro-social causes and is thrilled to lend our airwaves to generating awareness within the gay and lesbian community about autism.”

“As the uncle of a child with autism, I am deeply affected by the emotional toll the disorder takes on an entire family. I admire how hard my sister works each day to help my nephew master skills like interacting with his brother and talking on the phone,” said Eric Feldman, Executive Vice President, Programming and Operations for here!.

The Autism Speaks Public Service announcements, produced in conjunction with the Ad Council, powerfully demonstrate the skyrocketing rate of autism, which has increased in prevalence more than tenfold from just a decade ago. Autism has reached epidemic proportions across the country and the numbers continue to grow. It is the goal of Autism Speaks to raise public awareness of autism to facilitate and quicken the pace of research and give hope to those who suffer from the disorder.

We need to contact these people and ask them how they would feel if AutTV started running ads to cure gays.
If we can tell them the facts, they may reconsider what they are doing.

I'll bet they are! I'm absolutely certain that at least some of the genes for autism/AS are also "gay genes", based on the large body of scientific evidence and theoretical work linking both homosexuality, lefthandedness and autism with the influence of testosterone on foetal development, and personal observation of anecdotal evidence.

How would these gays like it if there were prenatal tests for "weeding out" potentially gay or lesbian foetuses? I bet they wouldn't like that idea at all, but they are happy to join the curebie crowd who wish to eradicate autism.

I have sent them something to explain the position of the autism rights movement, and told them how Autism Speaks does not offer any services to autistics, they only seek to cure and eradicate.

Anyone else please contact them also.
Maybe someone should refer these TV newtwork people to this section of Neurodiversity.com, and remind them that the infamous Dr Lovaas was as much an enemy of "effeminate boys" as he was an enemy of autistics.

Exactly the same justifications for tormenting "sissy-boys" out of having an authentic self-image and behaving in an effeminate way were once given as are being given now to justify ABA and other programmes that aim to extinguish autistic behaviour and authentic self-image of autistic people; "This kid must be made to fit the gender stereotypes or he will not fit in socially and will invite bullying".

Sound familiar to anyone?
Replace homosexuality with autism

Ugh.  The only thing worse than an ignorant bigot is an ignorant bigot who has been a victim of prejudice and ought to know better.

I've submitted a comment on their form, with links to AFF and other autistic civil rights websites.  Thanks for posting the contact information, Amy.
I agree, I think some of us have contacted them to try that. Haven't had response yet though.

That's a good idea. Why don't we start a little mini ad campaign for Aut TV 3(whenever it comes out) that starts asking people to donate money to cure homosexuality and the lives that it's ruined. Then ask them how they like it.

Do you want to affect change or lock people into their combative corners?  This approach is negative and not the way to win allies.  Hopefully you all are joking a bit here.

I'd like to scare the **** out of people, then let them figure out exactly what they've been doing to us for so long.

I want to make a film for AutTV called "Diversity every day". If I only had the computer equipment for it.

I would splice together parts from so sociology documentary to make different groups look bad (disced-lips, different practices and so forth). Maybe get some quotes for the cure-diversity side while playing stock footage of the Hitler Jugend and the Pioneers. All of it tongue in cheek. Finish it off with a modified CAN logo. I wish I had photoshop.

Do you have, or can you download, windows movie maker? Its simple to use, and effective. You can get copyright free film to use on archive.org.

How has that been working for you so far when interacting with the NT world?

I guess I'm wondering if this is an area where Aspies are tending to think too differently from NT's.  If you want to influence NT's, I think you have to approach them their way.  Otherwise, they might just smile you off.  That has been happening too much, hasn't it?

Most of them don't believe I even have it because I'm high functioning, then ignore it. If they do believe it they ignore me, refusing any accomidation whatsoever. Since they didn't much care about me, I started scaring them and making myself more visible and shocking to get my point across, and it worked. I see no problem why it wouldn't work here.

I'd like to point out that some of the nazis were also known to enjoy classical music and that hitler was a vegetarian. Does this mean that vegetarians who enjoy classical music are therefore as bad as nazis?
Oh no, it's godwin
