I think basically what you all are saying, is these guys are major hypocrites. Which is what I was thinking, when I first read this.
I do think that the channel needs a history lesson, about campaigns aimed at curing gays. Seems now that they have some level of acceptance, they feel they're in a position to judge others as they had once been judged.
Amazing, you give someone a inch of acceptance, and they make a mile out of it. Then forget where they were just a few years ago, and think they're in some sort of position to "cure" people.
You would've thought all the adversity they've been through, would've taught them to be more accepting and compassionate of those who are different than the "norm". I guess it just never got through to them. I hope this doesn't mean they're now going to just pull out their past struggles only when it serves them, like how people use the race card.
The Judge Rotenberg Center (named after a person of Jewish descent) imprisoning & torturing autistic adults and children - Minority reporters that have always had to deal with stereotypes and prejudices, continuing to report stories implicating autistics as violent or less valuable people and now the gay community on the bandwagon to wipe out a group of people simply because they are different? I am completely and utterly disgusted with them all!
Can they see nothing but their own interests? Do they not see Our plight as on the same road they travel or have traveled? I have always been vocal for the rights of others (besides autistics) but now that I see them for the selfish individuals they are....why should I bother? I really feel crushed (....but I'll get up again).
here! is dedicated to supporting important pro-social causes and is thrilled to lend our airwaves to generating awareness within the gay and lesbian community about autism.
autism can be a pro soical cause, but supporting autism speaks isnt. they promote the idea that autistics are never useful at all and just dead space. they suggest that parents should just kill their children instead of trying to give them the best life they can live, becuase "it's more horrific than any other disease on earth". and yes, they call it a disease. disease this you jerks!! i think autism speaks is full of it and totally diseased. they also promote eugenics and perfect children as the only ones to be raised.
plus the entire article says that autism is always negative, never postive in any way shape or form, as devsating and a emontional toll. they never talk about the rewards of rasing autistic children becuase according to autism speaks, there are none, and you have to get rid of the autistic children (cured) in order to have rewards in parenting.
also, autism speaks says they want to give hope for suffers. first off, we dont suffer by being autistic, in fact, i call it normal to be autistic. that's all i know and i wouldn't have it any other way. second of all, my life isn't hopeless and helpless as they protay all autistics as. and besides, their kind of hope isn't hope, it's eugenics by wiping us out. many autistics like who they are and wouldnt change it. they need to shut up once in a while and get into the real world, not playing house in what they think is a healthy person. autistic is healthy. propdaganda isn't.
there is a epidemic...of propadanga that says autism is evil and the devil.
Not a direct quotation, but just substituting homosexuality for autism:
Our network has several staff members directly impacted by homosexuality. We understand the importance of supporting Homosexuality Speaks so they can continue their important work in funding research to find a cure for this devastating disorder.
I find their attitude difficult to understand. It makes me so sad.
I think these media outlets need to be approached with friendship and caution. They are, after all, trying to help. It's just that they aren't as connected to the issue as we are, and don't understand that Autism Speaks may not be the best vehicle for acheiving autism awareness. Instead of being negative, start by saying you are glad they want to help, but that a partnership with XXX organization (one that you all think does a solid job) would be more productive for the following reasons (list). In those reasons you can highlight the issues lurking behind the concept of "cure." You don't have to state the parallels to gay experience (and I think it's better not to); they'll see them in the facts.
I've done a lot of marketing and persuassion in my time. Sugar really does work.
We need to contact these people and ask them how they would feel if AutTV started running ads to cure gays.
If we can tell them the facts, they may reconsider what they are doing.
This is where they can be contacted -

That's a good idea. Why don't we start a little mini ad campaign for Aut TV 3(whenever it comes out) that starts asking people to donate money to cure homosexuality and the lives that it's ruined. Then ask them how they like it.
Do you want to affect change or lock people into their combative corners? This approach is negative and not the way to win allies. Hopefully you all are joking a bit here.
It's dark humour. I think we could have it in a way, where at the end it says "We're not serious, but this is what CAN and Autism Speaks are saying about people like us. This is what they used to think of people like you. Why contribute to those who would just as quickly turn around and start treating you as diseased, if it would benifit them monetarily?"

I'd like to scare the **** out of people, then let them figure out exactly what they've been doing to us for so long.
How has that been working for you so far when interacting with the NT world?
I guess I'm wondering if this is an area where Aspies are tending to think too differently from NT's. If you want to influence NT's, I think you have to approach them their way. Otherwise, they might just smile you off. That has been happening too much, hasn't it?
Most of them don't believe I even have it because I'm high functioning, then ignore it. If they do believe it they ignore me, refusing any accomidation whatsoever. Since they didn't much care about me, I started scaring them and making myself more visible and shocking to get my point across, and it worked. I see no problem why it wouldn't work here.
Tell you what, if it works for you, I'm not going to challenge the approach. In my world I don't see antagonism and shock working very often, and do see diplomacy working. But, as I said, if it works for you, I'm not going to challenge the approach. Just beware - it can backfire.

So can diplomacy. If getting people to notice you means screaming your head off, then everyone has to be ready to do that.
This news disgusts me. What a stupid world.
Ugh. Have people no sense at all? Don't answer that, it was rhetorical, and I already know the answer. Western fascism reigns again.
I sent this message to here!:
To whom it may concern:
As an out bisexual and autistic woman, I am horrified that here! has chosen to align itself with Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization that researches the genes involved in autism in order to devise a pre-natal test which would allow parents to abort autistic fetuses. I am pro-choice, and a member of an international Autism Rights movement. When genes are specifically being weeded out of the human gene pool, eugenics is being practiced, much as certain researchers were known to be investigating the possibly genetic cause of homosexuality for such a purpose. How can here! display such hypocrisy in their choice of alliances? Please visit ****aspiesforfreedom**** to learn about autism directly from autistics. We are not a scourge and are able to communicate without the dangerous and self-serving mouthpiece of Autism Speaks. We can and do speak for ourselves, will you, our brethren community, forego judgment and listen? Please respond.
M. Molyneux,
autistic and proud

Please, we have nothing to do with this
?
Has anyone received an reply/answer yet? I wrote to the station twice but have yet to receive a reply. Not even so much as a automated one thanking me for my comments. Gee, I was polite and everything. I'm just curious if they are ignoring all of us :? Perhaps they are re-thinking their support for Autism Speaks....I certainly hope so.
